I must be a glutton for punishment...
I love the gear tunnel in the T but I'm no fan of the current tonneau options, and I really like the gear guard cable option for the T. I don't like that the S doesn't have any "out of sight, out of mind" secure locations. (This all seems to be about security.)

Reason for wanting a pickup is to haul my kayak to go fishing. Would need a RTT for sleeping. Wife suggested I just get a trailer for the kayak, since I also do a lot of fishing on my feet (without the kayak), and I can sleep in the S. I could get a trailer that can also hold a RTT if that ever appeals to me. (This all seems to be about lifestyle and the like.)

So, the real question now..... Am I going to keep moving my eventual delivery further out every time I change the model? FWIW, I am a long way off since I just placed my order in Feb 2022.

Do you not consider the frunk secure?

There is also under the rear deck unless you get a spare.

D'oh! Yes, thanks for calling that out. I absolutely consider the frunk to be more secure and forgot all about it. That makes me feel better. I should be able to load stuff in there for safe keeping.

Honestly, I'm probably making more of an issue out of this than is strictly necessary since, even in ICE pickups, you don't get secure, hidden storage unless you get a quality tonneau, a bed topper, or something like the Decked drawer system I have in my current pickup.

The rear deck under-storage is fairly sizeable from all of the videos recently. Although some videos show it coming with a divider and some not, so it's hard to say just how bit it really is. One video show the divider, what appeared to be the first aid kit and compressor cable bags in a custom location. The other video showed no divider and it seemed a decent size for all of those "permanently in the car" things.

Unpopular opinion: I think a lot of people ordered a Rivian R1T when they actually need/want an R1S. I'm surprised at the number of posts here asking (and complaining) about features a pickup truck simply don't do well. Dude, you got a mid-size pickup truck, what do you expect :p

For 90% of the population, a sedan/SUV is always the better choice.

Then again, lots of questions about R1S and sheets of plywood, etc. Outside of a full sized SUV or minivan, who is often carrying 4x8 sheets of plywood in their SUV so often it would make/break their decision to buy one?

For the OP, I still think an R1S is better for you. Think outside of Rivian what options exist. The same dilemma still exists. Long term do you want a pickup truck? Or an SUV? Chances are it is the SUV. It will be far more useful for the average person.

Isn't that also where the (undersized) spare tire would go?

Yep, I agree. I'm "in" on the R1S and looking at getting a trailer for the kayak (and potentially allowing for the RTT, if needed).

To be honest, I don't know. I didn't see a spare in either of the images, with or without divider, but the owners guide seems to be saying that it is under that storage area (so another layer deeper than the images), per page 137.

I thought I saw somewhere else (some further speculation) that it was either one or the other. Of course, I'm absolutely hoping for (expecting!!!) both. I want that spare AND the organizer tray. The picture sure does make it look like that's how it'll be.

Itā€˜s a shame that Rivian has not provided far more pix of the R1S, including the spare tire compartment. These things do make a difference to people! It’s not like it would be difficult to make a comprehensive photo album, of sorts, that clearly shows ALL the features. Get a frickin’ camera and start taking pictures of every possible thing!!!! Maybe even throw a some descriptive text and dimensions. C’mon. How hard could this be?!

I don't know.... It almost seems like they could have someone, maybe a social media person, that would be in charge of following along in forums, and making posts (twitter, instagram, etc) to address some of the commonly sought after information. Surely this can't be that difficult, right?

Of all the things they do, taking and posting some photos could be done by grade schooler, in no time, whatsoever. This would not be an involved project. Rivian undoubtedly already has all the necessary photo info. So, let the customers see what they are signing up for, darn it.

Yes I read the owners guide not much else to be gleaned without a Rivian rep or actual truck (R1S) in hand anyone have access to one on this thread?
