Try another one now (without actually paying)?
interesting. I just had the same issue. Wasn't a problem earlier today.

Sounds like they are implementing the change that RJ forecasted on the earnings call of allowing reservations but configurations until closer to production time for new orders.

Hopefully that functionality is tied to the same process for updating delivery estimates based on production schedules.

By preventing you from configuring a new reservation, they are also preventing you from locking in a price. This gives them the flexibility to raise prices later without the pushback they got in March when people thought their configured prices were locked in.

You can no longer configure any R1 vehicle. And the website says late 2023 delivery for new orders. Maybe ramp up is going faster than we thought?

They'd have to crank out 25,000 plus this year and be at max production capability by end of 2022 to be able to deliver vehicles in late 2023 to new buyers.

That would be a hell of a feat.

congrats... I'm on day 1,181
I would love to see the preorder deposit date matched to the actual delivery. I have seen way too many claims of deliveries a few weeks after order. Given the wait time some folks have had to endure its not terribly helpful posting these kind of messages. I don’t mean any disrespect and I am sure there was not ill intent with the post but it just feels like- “ha ha I got one but you didn’t”

Agreed. Keep in mind of that 25k they will produce this year, 10k are Amazon vans. Their goal was go get the plant to 150k by end of 2023. If they can get the parts I think they can do it.

90k reservations at their last earnings report. 15k deliveries this year. That leaves 75k for next year. It’s not impossible.

So, it appears May 25, 2022 will be another important date in the history of Rivian - the date new reservations were decoupled from configuring the vehicle or determining the pricing. As noted by others, RJ previewed this change on the earnings call, but we didn’t know when it was to occur - until today.

In many ways this change makes sense for Rivian. But I wonder if requiring a refundable deposit just to get in line to configure a vehicle at some point in the future will dampen the growth rate of new Rivian reservations? And will reservation holders who can’t configure a vehicle or determine pricing be as “sticky” while they are waiting as folks have been in the past?

The conversion rate clearly isn't 100%, so it's actually much less they'd have to do next year, perhaps only 40k or so.

Eh, I think it's just better to be optimistic and say late 2023 even if it's really 2024. That's future Rivian's problem to deal with, and they are well experienced in it already.

You have to take automakers claims about EV production with a grain of salt. For example, VW‘s CEO is now claiming they will overtake Tesla EV sales by 2025- you have got to be kidding. With every automaker in the world announcing new EVs and with the current supplier issues and battery shortages I don’t believe a single production forecast that comes out of their mouths. Given that Rivians are actually being built RJ was forced to be more transparent about their production Issues.
I predict that every automaker will eventually be forced to do the same thing much to the dismay of their shareholders. Setting up false expectations will cost them in the long term.

Sly way to stop their random assignment system from giving people a guide if they've just recently reserved a truck.

I hate to say it but it makes sense for Rivian to sprinkle some of these new orders in. They make more money on the post 3/1 orders. I can't blame them for allocating some trucks to that.
This mean as an Explore pre-march order, it will be a long long time with many delays before I get that email that we ran out, you will have to chose another option.

Double edged sword. They risk causing cancellations from long time reservation holders.
If they are stuck producing 15K a year, that sword won't cut them as deep as selling at a loss to me.

Obviously that is not a correct assumption if Post march orders already being filled. I think by end of 2022, Pre-March orders are the ones being sprinkled and all new orders will get priority.

I'm just really frustrated that they even list one of the only advantages to the Launch edition is Priority delivery but it seems that's not even close to the case now. Sitting at 1265 days now since my order.

Hate to point out the obvious, but everyone who still has OC selected knows that we're waiting until it at least hits the manufacturing floor. People that have not waited as long will get their trucks because of how they are batching the manufacturing process. How OP got theirs is a mystery to me and Rivian is royally f'n up the reservation system if someone can get a truck with a 2022 reservation date.
P.S. Your spec is great and don't think you should change it OC FOR LIFE. Don't change from OC be patient its worth it :)
