Hello all

my wife is quite petite , only 4 ‘ 8” . We have a R1S pre-ordered and I don’t think I’ve heard or seen any conversations regarding how easy or difficult it may be for a smaller person to get and out of and drive comfortably with pedal positions and ride height .

thx in advance

Morning @Shnork my wife is 5' - 5'1" on a windy day, lol. She finds that its easiest to get in and out when setting the suspension to "LOWEST" and overall she is very comfortable with the seating position and visibility. We hope that eventually we will get an OTA that allows the automatic kneeling of the truck to its lowest setting when placed in PARK. Early trucks were seen with rock sliders that could double as a step and I am debating fabricating a set but my free time is at a minimum presently...https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/attachments/rivian-r1t-running-board-step-jpg.25392/

My wife is taller at 5'2". She has plenty of adjustability in the seat and wheel, but has a bit of a struggle getting in the truck in Standard height. Lack of a grab handle and step make it much more of a pain for her. At least she has the steering wheel to grab onto when she drives.

Not sure if you are asking about R1T or R1S (thread title says R1T)but my wife and I are 5’5” and getting in and out of our R1T is not easy. The handles inside the truck are poorly positioned and useless. I plan on adding steps or running boards when a solution is available.

Two things that Rivian could do in the short term is have a kneeling position and have the drivers seat retract to a home position when exiting the vehicle. The closer the seat is to the steering wheel the harder it is to get in and out.

Once in the R1T we really like it.

My wife is 5’2” on a tall day, getting In to R1T at standard night was tricky, but lowest height was easy. I don’t think she tried the driver’s seat.

When they add “kneel” mode it should be much better. This was supposed to be there from the start, sounds like it’s coming “s00n” though.

I was 5'2 but I think I am shrinking! I use sport mode at lowest setting, push seat back quite a way, lower the seat as low as it will go and am able to get out. Agree that the grab bar isnt useful to me and to bet back in I use steering wheel to help. Not graceful but works, for now.. I will be first in line for running boards!

I'm 5'4", wife is 5' even. It's a pain in the ass to get in and out of the truck. Grabbing the steering wheel is not smart. The "oh-shit" handle is not positioned well for ingress/egress. The lack of automatic lowering and pushing back of the seat is also frustrating. A lot of this can be resolved via OTA updates, but the lack of an A-pillar grab handle was an oversight IMO.

The software-addressable stuff is coming, but it should have been top priority over pet mode.

Pure conjecture right now IMO since you're talking S and all answers are for a T. While no doubt similar to almost same, they will be different. Witness that the S will have a suspension that lowers when you go to "park" to a height you set...the T does not offer that ATT, but could via an OTA I bet. Here's a capture from the web on that. That'll help on "getting in/out" but does nothing for drivability. IMO as a Luxury vehicle, the adjustable pedals are noticeably absent and should have been included for this exact reason - Anthropometric measurements vary widely.

Also of note my wife is 5'2", uses the passenger handle, and gets in with a little "hop" and a pull up on the handle. I will add steps/sliders whenever some are offered like others have said.

I would take the website claims with a grain of salt (reference true hands-free claim). That said, there is a 0% chance the R1S gets this feature and the R1T does not.

My wife, all of 4' 10.5" (you better not forget that .5"), had a hard time getting in and out of the passenger side of the R1T, and me being 6' 2" had a hard time getting in the passenger side. We have not had the luxury of getting in and out of the drivers side yet.

I still want to convert my order over to a R1S, but since no one has really got one yet... and I cant try getting in and out of one.. I need to head to the dealer this weekend and see if they have a R1S that I can try getting in and out of.

Rivian really needed to add running boards for shorter people. I'm 5'9" and the lowest setting for the R1T is about perfect for me. Anyone shorter than that is going to have some issues.

The R1S and R1T are identical from B pillar forward. The ride heights are the same.

Rear door openings are bigger on R1S.

Sorry I wasnt to clear about it.. Because of the way my back is injured, getting in and out of the drivers side is MUCH easier for me than the passenger side, so this changes things for me.
