I have pre 3/1 pricing and have an R1 Shop order en route - confirmed on 8/8, so 10 days ago. I was reviewing my order details and it looks like Rivian is charging a $1500 for destination fee. I thought we pre 3/1 orders got the old $1075 destination fee?

What has others' recent experience been with this?

Also, the Rivian tax calculations seem a little off as compared to my State (Arizona) tax calculator. Have folks had similar experiences with potentially incorrect tax calculations?

I do not think destination was included in the pre-March price. If you go to the payment estimator on their web site it does say 1500. The estimated taxes are not correct either, for my address it should be 8.75% for the tax rate, looks like they are using 8.5% so they are low by about $200 on my estimate.

I was charged $1,075 for destination for my 7/18 delivery, but I don't know when they raised the price.

Interesting. Looks like I'm paying $1500. Thanks for the feedback. I have reached out to my Guide for clarification.

Paid $1075 for my June-delivered R1T which was post price hike, so it seems like a recent hike for all new deliveries.

Do you pay for delivery if picking up your order? I'm 2 hours from the factory

You do. Destination fees are fixed.

https://www.autoblog.com/article/what-is-destination-charge-fee/

"Also known as the destination fee, the destination charge theoretically covers the cost it takes to get a car from the factory to the dealership. It's usually a flat fee, which doesn't vary by region. It's "equalized" – that is to say, the average cost to ship cars all over the country. If your dealer is right next to the factory that built the car, too bad – you have to pay, too, so folks a couple thousand miles away don't have a massive charge."

and from Motortrend:

https://www.motortrend.com/features/what-are-car-destination-delivery-charges-fees/

"Some manufacturers have programs that allow customers to pick up their new vehicles from the factory. However, these are generally intended as fun, enthusiast-oriented experiences rather than a way to avoid paying a destination charge. For example, BMW's Performance Center delivery program is offered to its customers in the United States. It takes place at the BMW Performance Center in Greer, South Carolina, adjacent to the factory where most of its SUVs are produced. The program includes lodging and meals, as well as driving instruction and personalized vehicle handover. At the conclusion, the owner drives their new BMW home.

Although BMW's program is no extra cost, it does not negate the delivery charge. That might seem confusing if you're picking up an X3 that was built within sight of the Performance Center, but makes more sense if it's a 5 Series that came from Germany. Either way, some amount of transportation, preparation, and quality assurance is part of the process, so BMW levies its standard delivery charge. So even if you have to pay the destination charge when you pick your car up from the factory, you might get some extra perks to go along with it."

I have no idea if Rivian provides any extra perks for a factory pick up. I read in another thread that they were allowing factory pickups only for buyers within a certain radius? On the other hand, someone from these boards a few months ago also flew in from the Pacific Northwest for a factory pickup and drove it home, so who knows?

Regardless, we're all paying the destination fee. I'm going to push for $1075 and see what happens. This is an interesting inconsistency...

I figured it would be a matter of time that they raised the $1075 destination fee. That amount seemed very low for the size of the vehicle and considering they will deliver it to your house! It looks like Rivian went through yesterday and updated a lot of prices/items.

From my Guide this AM:

“Regarding your transportation fee, this was increased for all preorder holders regardless of date. The pricing on your configuration and build is price-locked, but unfortunately this does not apply to associated delivery fees.”
