I had one car get a replacement windshield, which was a Fuyao - no OEM glass in town and I needed it same day. It was the worst quality windshield I’ve ever seen. Noticeable distortion, got pitted super quickly.
Not only pitting. In the documentary they had glass shattering during manufacturing because they couldn’t dial in their equipment correctly. I don’t remember if it was temperature or mixture but I do remember during interviews people would regularly jump because another piece spontaneously shatters.

Long story short, Kim sat on the roof and broke the glass. Shared lots of pictures of her sitting on Teslas over the years without causing any damage. Even more interesting, the Rivian SC originally had several roofs available to do the replacement but then those were somehow broken within the SC and couldn't be used. Ultimately the repair was completed at no cost to the owner (as a good will gesture since there were a number of other issues being addressed during that service visit). Rivian seems to want to blame owners and external damage as the cause and are not, yet, publicly acknowledging that this glass is more fragile than it should be.

I gotta say, I can't see this roof handling even the mildest of hail storms.
That’s what the roof racks are for. You put a sheet of ¾” plywood on the rack, and presto! Instant protection?

You could probably whoop up a hinged trifold piece that can store in the gear tunnel that you could attach to the crossbars on short notice. If you live in a hail prone area it might not be a bad idea.

That's pretty tough to do when the hail occurs in the middle of the work day and you have no covered parking anywhere for miles.
might be best to put the roof racks on top and a sheet of plywood on that. If it’s parked outside all day.

I'm just thankful that Tawny Kitaen didn't shoot a video on a Rivian.

I had no idea that Fuyao was the supplier and after googled found out they did a documentary about this company. Interesting stuff, I will have to watch it later. Wow

Well who the hell sits on their roof? If I sat or stood on the roof of my regular cars they would all collapse or at the very least dent because they aren’t reinforced on every single spot to hold my 225lbs up there. Maybe don’t sit or stand on the roof of your car!

Saying that Kim weighs 225lbs is just mean.

At 325 I find all these types of threads amusing.

I am acutely aware of the amount of weight I put on anything. Everything is fragile to me.

I even had one physical therapist who wouldn't let me sit in her chairs because they were only rated for 250.

I'm 240 and I routinely break things by leaning against them, brushing them as I walk by, breathing on them, or generally just being near them due to gravitational forces. The idea of sitting on the glass roof of my Rivian is so foreign to me that I am at a loss that anyone would think to do it.

FWIW mine weathered a moderate hailstorm (high velocity, skittle-sized hail) at a trailhead in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness just fine last week. It was enough to hurt my skin and I was worried about the truck for a few days until I got home, but it was fine :)

Actually I always had a concern over the full glass roof, but i heard somewhere in one of the Rivian videos that it can hold an entire weight of truck if it happened to be on the roof but during my visit to Rivian Center to view the truck I paid close attention to the glass and even tried to give it a little push with a finger and i can tell you i saw it flexing, now after seeing this story it makes me really worried.
