Now that there are a couple R1S's in the wild. We've seen pictures of the inside of the compact spare wheel. Has anyone actually taken the wheel out of the bed and looked at the outside of the wheel. Before any R1S's were produced CS said that the wheel would be compact because of the tire, but you'd get the same wheel that you ordered and not a steel wheel. Can Someone that owns an R1S take the wheel out and confirm this? @ECR1S or @fletch?

I don't recall ever hearing that it would be a matching wheel. It was always a non-matching "donut" from what I can recall.

Well thanks for confirming Fletch! Any spare is better than no spare. Just wishful thinking on my part. CS has known to have bad information until the very last minute.

Have any R1S owners inquired about purchasing a full-size spare from the service center? Anecdotally, some R1T owners who didn't have a spare in their config were able to do this, so I'm hoping I can do the same once I take delivery of my R1S.

I don't remember ever hearing that it'd be a matching wheel, and sure didn't expect one. Here's what the outside looks like.

It's the same tire and wheel so don't know why they wouldn't. Just keep in mind there is no official place to store a full size spare so you'll have to find a way to make that work (hitch mount, roof - just don't drop it through the glass, interior cargo area, etc).

Not yet. I thought about it, but I've never had a compact spare and don't know how easily it pops back into its compact size. If I couldn't get it back to its original shape when deflated, I might have some trouble getting it back into storage under the cargo floor. I'll probably wait to inflate it until I actually need it.

That's the same tire that my Macan and my wife's SQ5 has. I've never had to use either, though. It is nice to know it is there, but I also carry plugs and Fix-a-Flat!

according to my Guide it will be available at some point in the Gear Shop. who knows when that will be. Rivian will need to reach some tipping point in their supply chain in order for them to have some spare spares lying around for purchase.

and i highly doubt you can get it through the SC.

I don’t have experience with these donuts and would definitely prefer a full size matching wheel/tire, but as others pointed out no space for it. Rivian does provide a “fix a flat” package with the truck.

Hope you have room in the vehicle after you put on the compact. Cuz it's not gonna fit back in the storage space. I had this happen to be years ago when my car was filled with dive gear.

R1T owners have been able to get them through the service centers already....why would it be different now ?
