I can confirm. This happens with me. 3D rendering of vehicles ONLY appear when in front of the Rivian. The blind spot monitoring is decent (not great) off the rear bumpers. But there isn't really anything to the sides. When I slowly pass a vehicle on my left or right side and look in the cluster, I see, consecutively.
When the vehicle next to me is in a particular location, the cluster does not show any indication that there is a vehicle on that side. When performing this test, I did not look at the yellow light in the mirrors to see if it was illuminated, but my gut says that I only see this light in conjunction with the yellow warning circles off the rear bumper in the cluster. I will need to re-check this behavior while also checking the mirrors to be certain.
- A vehicle rendered in 3D in front of the truck.
- That vehicle disappears from the cluster.
- Later, the yellow warning symbols appear off the rear bumper indicating danger on that side.
The rear blind spot monitoring also isn't great compared to other vehicles I've driven.
One point OP didn't make is that the blind spot monitoring on the side mirrors (little orange light things that light up) only appear for me when my turn signal is on. I've driven other vehicles where these light up any time there is another vehicle or obstacle detected in your blind spot. This is annoying and dangerous because there are always situations where I don't put on my turn signal. I do this most often, when I think I'm the only one on the road....when you think there is no one around you change lanes without signaling, it's common. BUT the Rivian side mirror lights won't be on in this case. When they aren't on, you think it's safe. Not a great design.
