I don’t know about anyone else, but I should probably get a truck next year and by that time I don’t expect guides will even be a thing anymore. As Rivian grows it will be impossible to keep that extra layer of customer service. Especially now with the existence of the R1 Shop to help match vehicles with owners.

Yes, I believe the Guides will be history once production starts to ramp up. With only 300-350 trucks manufactured per week the use of Guides is still feasible.

Some interesting feedback from my new guide.

I was beginning to think they had stopped making deliveries in the DFW area since I haven't seen any vehicles in the R1 Shop for Dallas the past 4 weeks or so but today I got my 8 Step invite email and got a VIN # assigned during the completion process. I finished all steps except for #8 (schedule delivery) as this one is locked waiting on Vehicle Prep. I'm hoping the truck is already in the Dallas Service Center so I'm only days or a week or so away from delivery. We shall see...

Man, happy and frustrated today~ got a Vin earlier this week and my guide said 6-8 weeks since the truck is in normal. Got a message today that I can pick up the car this week!! The heck?

Now I gotta rush through financing. Good problem to have, but might not meet the deadline now!

What's even stranger is there are no pickup options in October. Guess there really is a end of quarter push!

I'm sure you will get it quickly...and you'll love it.

Makes me think I should start my paperwork regardless of what my guide said. I already have a VIN, so that suggests that it's further along than some of those who have gone through the process, right?

Congrats man, and thanks for being my canary in the coalmine!

My guide said the same thing, I have held off on the insurance but worked on the financing part because I wasn't sure who I would settle with after I sell my car. I think they are advising it just in case something happens with the truck and it fails inspection.

That’s how my calendar looked too. Service center scheduled me via text almost any time I wanted, even T+2 days on a Saturday. It seems they’re just scheduling manually or something.

Does it make sense to get insurance on a vehicle before you own it? I usually just transfer my insurance from my trade-in after the fact.

You can get a quote from an insurance company. Ask them to hold it for you and have it ready and activate it on the day you get your new vehicle. That way, you only start paying your new premium when you own the new vehicle.

Is there not a way to see the VIN number or Production Date on a truck that’s currently in the Shop?

Can’t see it anywhere and thought someone said they found it or maybe they just asked their guide?

Not that i know of. I selected one from the shop and it already had a Vin once I locked it in.

Insurance and ownership —

Last year I purchased vehicle out of state. It was being shipped and I decided to play it safe and get insurance.

On a conversation with my insurance company a couple days later, car still in transit and about a week out. I just happened to mention car was not physically in my possession.

He stated, at least for my insurance at the time GEICO, the insurance company doesen’t consider the vehicle mine until it’s titled in the state of ownership. He cancelled my policy on the spot. Told me to add vehicle to policy once the process is complete via DMV.

It’s splitting hairs of course on coverage timing and ownership. If, I’m on my way to the DMV in new vehicle with temp tag and in a accident, the insurance company could push back, if you started coverage that some day. I myself, effective date is the day I physically have the vehicle.

Just thought I’d pass my experience along…

My suggestion for Rivian that will never be heard or heeded: let people flag "close enough" builds, and if that build pops up give people the option to automatically assign it to them. Order of preference would be exclusively order date and location.
Or let me sort by distance/specific zip...like, you know, Tesla.
