My R1T was delivered to me last Thursday, September 29. Overall, the delivery experience was very good. The delivery team did not want to come to my house – I live somewhat off the beaten path – and requested that I meet them at a park in Greenville (50 miles away) to accept delivery. I was a little concerned about that, especially with hurricane Ian heading our way. My wife and I drove to Greenville and when we pulled into the park the R1T was parked right in front. My first thought was, “Damn, that’s gorgeous!” I ordered a Canyon Red and the color is so much better in person – I did not really want fire engine red – the canyon red is what I would call an “earthy red”. It has a tint of orange to it. I love the color. The interior is Ocean Coast – I would call it light grey, not white – and it works perfectly with the canyon red truck.

My guide had removed the gear tunnel shuttle from my configuration because she said they were not currently available and that I could sign up for it at the gear shop. She could not tell me if I would get the pre-March price on it. The wall charger, cargo bars, and all-weather floor mats were not with the truck but sent to me separately. I’m still waiting on cargo bars and floor mats.

Johnny, our delivery guy, greeted us and we signed some paperwork. After that Johnny spent 90 minutes going over everything about the truck. He helped me set up my keys, pair my phone, and set my profile for seats, etc. He was thorough, but I will say that reading the experiences of people on the forum was a big help. One thing that he did not go over was how to turn on the windshield wipers. Of course, on the way home it started to rain so I had to fumble around to get the wipers on. I would say buying the Rivian was the best and easiest car buying experience I have had.

After diving the R1T for a week, all I can say is Wow! I feel like I’m driving a spaceship. It is quick and handles like a dream. For the most part I have left the truck in conserve mode and am getting about 330 miles of range. Currently I am charging with the portable charger – I have to drop the charger out of an upstairs window where I have a 50-amp 220 outlet. I’m getting 15-18 miles per hour of charge. The electrician is coming out next week to install the wall charger on a 60-amp circut. We are taking our first road trip this weekend, so I am anxious to see how the public charging stations go.

Some observations after one week:

  • I am very disappointed that the 12-volt outlet was removed from the frunk. I had been counting our putting a refrigerator in there on road trips.
  • Regenerative braking is a big deal – it is a whole new way of driving! I really like it.
  • The gear tunnel is really cool, but you can’t reach very far into the tunnel. I think the gear tunnel shuttle will make it much more functional.
  • The bottom half of the tailgate is not metal – magnets won’t stick to it - just a surprising observation.
  • The time and outside tempeture reading are on the top right of the center display and is too small, and too far from the driver. I would like to see time and tempeture on the driver display. So far that is my biggest complaint about the display. It would be nice to be able to customize the driver display some.
  • Alexa seems to have problems with many of the commands. I will have to keep working on that.
  • When saving an address in the NAV system it would be nice to be able to edit the name of the location – for example: Charlie’s House instead of 123 Main Street.
  • The storage area under the armrests needs some kind of organizer – it is just a big hole. I have ordered the organizer from Riviparts.
  • One of my biggest concerns was the tonneau cover – so far it has not been an issue.
  • My iphone has worked perfectly as a key – no problems with it opening and closing as some have reported.
  • I would like to see something like an all-weather floor mat for the bed – to keep debris from getting in the cracks.
I have had a lot of people ask about the truck – “What is that?” “Who makes it?” “How far will it go?” etc. My favorite was when I was telling my swimming buddy that I had picked up my Rivian the guy in the next lane said, “You got a Rivian?!!”

Congratulations on your delivery. The driver’s display is really lacking customization and display of information. I’d like to see more, especially things like time, temperature, and more efficiency/energy numbers.

I also would love it just to be more mode specific.

Sport mode...show me cooling system temp. Torque delivered to each wheel real time.Active shock damper value to each wheel real time. Active g meter. Sporty graphics and colors.

Off road....show cooling system temp...basically all same stuff...except instead of active g meter, change it to angles of inclination. Off road graphics and colors per mode.

Etc...

So much could be done with this...

Yes like all the animations in the hummer. Sure they are a little gimmicky but a little theater wouldn’t hurt.

@Deacon ... a recent new R1T owner pulled the Frunk internal LED lamp and found the 12V harness that had powered the recently deleted 12V outlet was still there, just with clipped and taped ends. So, you should be able to get a 12V outlet from Amazon, etc... and install /connect it where the original included outlet used to sit.

Good to know - I will definitely check that out. Thanks.

^ if you're going to make a hole there... pull the Frunk tub and use a step drill. They make excellent clean/round holes in plastic.

I'd recommend checking that power is actually available before buying anything, Rivian may have also disabled that circuit in software. I have no knowledge of the R1T wiring but this would be easy enough to verify before diving into a project.

Most likely on the same bus as the other 12V outlets, but good idea to check first...
