Thanks for sharing your experience. I wish it went better for you. If some of what you experienced was warned by others previously, then I missed it to or forgot about it since I have not had any guide contact or emails from Rivian saying to get ready for delivery.

LOL, I started the thread admitting that it is on me. AND I KNEW I was buying a vehicle... where I went wrong was thinking that if you had to show proof of insurance, and make the payment, that you still might not get the vehicle for another 8 weeks. I would have expected the process to give the timeline of delivery early in the steps...like STEP ONE... but in fact you don't get a delivery estimate. I completed 7 of the steps and only found out in the conversation with the guide that the vehicle wouldn't be arriving for two more months. WHY would step 2 be show proof of insurance in this case....? I admit I rushed through step 1, but step 2-7 I went over carefully to ensure I was getting the acceptable amount of insurance, the proper uploaded documentation, etc.

Also, I don't think it "opens up when the truck is being prepared and loaded", otherwise why would it let you make changes to the configuration? If I had paused in step one and changed tires for instance, that would have to be before it is getting loaded on a train, right...?

Also... I'm not complaining, I'm getting the freakin truck finally!!! I just thought someone else might benefit from my experience.
Obviously, we don't know what insurance company you have but it would likely be worthwhile to give them a call and ask them to suspend your insurance on the Rivian until you call back to activate. USAA has done this for me in the past during winter for performance cars, etc. and it might save you a couple months of premiums. Shouldn't impact delivery as you can prove coverage at delivery. Hope this helps and congrats on the truck!

I would have done the same thing you did had I not seen another warning here beforehand. It seems like they skipped the “lock your config” step with you and just gave you a VIN. When I got my email to confirm it was before I had a VIN and my guide went over my config long before my 8 steps even showed up.

6ish weeks later I got my 8 steps but my config was already locked. I also didn’t get the 8 steps until my truck was at the final delivery center, which is what I thought they were trying to do for everyone. The time between when I got my 8 steps and my truck was like a week and a half.

So I think timing just screwed you a little bit and Rivian is still figuring out what works best for the whole delivery process. For me it was more frustrating at the beginning waiting for my 8 steps but better overall I think because there was less opportunity for misunderstandings.

THAT sounds like the right order! LOL. What may have happened is that they switched guides on me. Over the weekend I received an email from another guide who told me that I would be getting reached out to by the new guide!! LOL So sounds like my emails came in reverse order. Meanwhile, I go back to waiting, at least it's a feeling I'm accustomed to.

I can tell you with certainty that it’s worth the wait.
