2018 R1S Reservations - Not yet delivered (commiserate together)

I am a November 2018 reservation holder and recently totaled my Model X, so I am without a car (first time since the Army many moons ago).

I am curious who else is a 2018 R1S reservation holder that has not yet taken delivery?

I spent many years in production and logistics and their batching process confuses me (much later reservations getting delivery with the same configuation in the same area, while old timers patiently wait).

So, who else is a 2018 R1S old timer patiently waiting? Below are some of the names and details I have come across in the forum.

I have added several new old timers and added a proximity to service center column. Obviously, this is an estimate using the city center of the forum member since I do not know their exact address. With two exceptions, they are all in close proximity to a SC.

With ongoing R1T deliveries, they should be able to load balance the service centers with early R1S reservations and later R1T deliveries.

I am hopeful that Rivian is aware of these oddities and that the upcoming delivery window update with bring reason to the situation.

Ummm ... No one told you that in 2020. The online configurator wasn't even available until 16 Nov 2020, and that was the absolute earliest you could have specified a model (R1T vs R1S), color, options, LE/Adventure/Explore, etc. We didn't even *know* what all those choices were until the preview of the configurator, one day before it opened up. No one at that time was saying deliveries were starting immediately - in fact I believe at that time they were saying the first *R1T* were intended to ship in June 2021, with the R1S to follow 4-6 months later.

False information like this undermines the valid complaints about delivery timing and order of deliveries.

I’ve got a got guide so far, but that’s pretty much it. Still waiting for more info, which Rivian said they’ll provide by the end of the month… hopefully.

Stopped by the local SC on a whim this morning - just thinking maybe they had some late week deliveries. AND lo and behold my R1S is on the lot getting a firmware update. Took a close look at the exterior and all the panels and paint look pretty good. Maybe delivery this week?

In hindsight, choosing "Explore" in Nov. 2020, two years into the wait, was my dumbest automotive decision ever. At the time, I thought, "Oh, late 2021? Yeah, I can keep waiting. $7500 for the head of the line seems steep, when I want the basic road model."

Come late 2021, and news of the supply chain delays, and the email saying "you're scheduled for late 2022, but you can change your config to improve your place in line," I immediately upgraded to Adventure. By then, though, the LE option was long gone--so I'm behind every 2019 and 2020 order who had the foresight to pick LE the first time. That doesn't bug me (my choice, after all, and the rest unforeseen) as much as the complete lack of communication that's left me feeling out of the process entirely. I read about guides and delivery windows and first mile invites, and I get ... crickets. Then seeing "late 2022" slip to "1H 2023," and not believing that either .... And then the loss of the tax credit ....

I'm happy for all the LE holders getting deliveries, of course. The minute they start delivering R1S Adventures, though, I'm going to start feeling a lot more antsy about my place in the queue.

Got the update email today (hey wow! personal contact! sort of.).
July-Sept. 2023. If they miss that by one more quarter, it'll be an even five years.
