This could happen either way, regardless of door opened or closed.
One million percent more likely with doors open?

I don't think you're going to park like 3-4 inches above a massive rock, but you might not notice if you open the door 3-4 inches above one and the truck lowers onto it with the door open?

In my GTI i have to watch for tall curbs all the time otherwise my door will open straight into it. Can't imagine if the thing was lowering itself with the door open the mental gymnastics I would have to play.

Land Rover lowers a bit when the car is in park, then lowers even further once the door is opened. It's doing this by design, and it works wonderfully. If you're worried about a rock you're likely in off-road mode which prevents kneeling. It also doesn't lower quite as much as a GTI.

Got my update last night. One thing they don't mention is there's some sort of minimum threshold before Kneel mode will engage from a stop. I was messing around in the parking garage right after update just going forward and back in and out of my spot and could not get kneel mode to engage. When I drove out to Bellevue to pick my partner up, kneel mode did engage.

It is a pretty fast drop down, probably ~2 seconds from hitting park? It lowers way down and is much easier to get into, even for me at 6"1'.

Good update. Looking forward to the next!

We don't need a user configurable kneel height. Kneeling is just for easing entry/exit so the lowest height would be the easiest for the purpose, for everyone, not just me. How tall are you? Let me ask you the simple question - would you find it better if kneel mode goes lower than lowest in sport mode instead of a some what low but not as low position?
No, I wouldn't find it better. I don't want to have to duck to get into my truck. Automatically going to low or lowest setting is perfect for my family. Makes things a little bit easier on entry/exit, but doesn't make it feel like I'm trying to hunch down...I've done that for enough years with my previous vehicles.

I'm not sure what else to say. I can see your point of view, and I hope they deliver what you need. I'm sorry that you can't also see mine (and the others here that are of the same opinion).

We need pictures of the wheels/wheel well when in the kneeled position.

Rivian doesn't want to be liable if it lowers a door into say, a rock. Open door with plenty of clearance and truck lowers itself into something- that's a recipe for a lot of pissed off customers.
100%. Back a few months ago when the suspension was still doing its “adjust all the time” thing, I was unloading my pup out of the back seat, and I had the back door open *just* clearing the car beside me (maybe a half an inch or something). The Rivian decided it wanted to lower itself, and the back door, with its curved leading edge, it lowered right into the car beside me. I was not pleased.

Sorry to hear. That must have sucked.

I think it sounds good the way it is and agree with cohall. I'd rather they spend the time working on other things like text integration or traffic cam, rather than tinkering with a kneel mode for a pickup truck. My wife is short, my kids are not quite 3 and 5, and they can enter the truck just fine in standard ride height. It's not as easy as our SUV, but I'm also aware of the fact that I bought a truck. I'm glad they integrated it for those that want it, but let's move on to other important matters.

My truck is eligible for the update. Unfortunately this is the second update since it’s been in service. 1 month and counting.
Went through your post history a bit, but couldn't find out- what is taking so long? I didn't see anything major?

I wish it would at least go to "lowest" when normally using all purpose. But it only goes to the one above that. Not sure why that is case...

Exactly this, Jeep air suspension will not lower with any doors open either.

Honestly not sure. I reported a ton of nitpicks. Maybe death by a thousand cuts. Maybe the suspension/CV axle issues. They did say it's headed to a body shop this week to address the panel fitment issues. To their credit they provided two-way flatbed, a rental for the first two weeks, then sent me their loaner R1T two weeks ago. Having an equivalent vehicle softens the blow quite a bit.
