Theres nothing wrong with a company pivoting into a new plan if they think it’s more efficient…that’s not “changing their narrative”.

There’s only a lot to piece together if you deliberately ignore Rivian’s messaging. Otherwise is pretty plainly laid out.
You do understand how insensitive this sounds, right?

Promising early R1S order holders an OCT-DEC 2022 delivery window four months ago just to push it out well into 2023 while recent R1T orders are moving ahead of them is the definition of changing their narrative.

I'm done speaking on this topic.

I'm happy for those who will get their R1Ts earlier than expected but just be mindful of others...

They wouldn't even give me a date - gave me the "Processing" response, and said it was because there was not a SC in my area yet. I live in upstate South Carolina, and I am only 2 hours from the SC in Atlanta.
And that did not stop them from delivering several R1T's in South Carolina, so how is it now a problem for R1S delivery? Very lame response. I have submitted a request for clarification, so we'll see if they can improve on their excuse.

ha! Another almost 2022 order trying to talk. Keep it moving...

if there is one thing I've realized is that no one who holds a R1S order is trying to start any beef, I wonder why?
You trying to tell people what they can comment on based on their order date isn't "starting beef"?

Non-filled R1T orders in South Carolina are all (or likely mostly all) now "Processing too." Rivian delivered early R1T orders to the 8 states that do not let them have a physical service center.

Rivian has decided, at least for now, that they aren't going to deliver more until they have closer paths for service. Maybe more mobile service? Maybe Service Centers near the state borders? Maybe working with a local Service Center that doesn't have trucks (Mazda, VW, Volvo, any company that the r1t isn't in competition with). Maybe, like Tesla is doing in New Mexico, putting Service Centers on Pueblo land? For New Mexico that is my hope. Helps Rivian, helps the Pueblos, and helps people like me :)

These 8 states are mildly screwed for now, but I'm hoping Rivian finds a "workaround."

But it hurts a bit. As all R1Ts (after the first few months of LE deliveries), and all R1S period, are now in a holding pattern till things get worked out in these 8 states.

Yah I’m in South Carolina purgatory too. One more disappointment from a company I had high hopes for…a Jan ‘23 date for a new date puts me in year 5…

…I’m still keeping the ressie but only as an economic play. I’m on the Land Rover customer advisory and they are stirring about an offroad EV. Thankfully Rivian is not the only option…

This is insane. What is your vehicle/configuration? I have seen on this forum that there is a section of FL where they have decided you are too far from a service center for delivery but I don't know where that is. Unless you have a max pack or some other thing that they just aren't actually building then this just isn't ok.
Adventure, Glacier White, Ocean Coast, Large Pack, 21s, Spare Tire, No Tonneau Cover. However I do live in the Florida panhandle and therein lies the problem. Just received my email from Ford saying I can order my Lightning with Spring delivery, so hello Ford, and see you sometime in 2024 Rivian and flip it for at least a 15K profit, maybe more.

@MrMusAddict was nice enough to put together this amazing tableau.

The percentage is likelihood of obstacle to delivery.

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...the-results-with-this-tableau-dashboard.9692/

  • North Carolina (100%)
  • South Carolina (99.999996%+)
  • Alabama (99.999996%+)
  • New Mexico (99.9995%+)
  • Nebraska (99.994%+)
  • Montana (99.93%+)
  • Louisiana (99.93%+)
  • West Virginia (91.3%+, but only one entry)
  • Alaska (91.3%+, but only one entry)

4/19 configuration: RIT, Quad + Max Pack, Ocean Coast, Camp Kitchen, roof rails, manual tonneau cover. Later upgraded to power tonneau and added Rivian charger.

Delivery window: no month, 2024 (without camp kitchen or tonneau cover, which is fine).

I had a chat today and found that changing to Dual Motor + Max would result in a price increase as this was only offered after the 3/1 price increase, so I won't do that.

Asked if she could give me any idea when I might be able to get a vehicle if I changed from Max to Large pack, and she said that they couldn't, that they never do manual updates -- and location doesn't play a role as I live in Illinois, 2.5 hours from Normal.

That seems shortsighted on their part. If I knew I was looking at a Jan-March 2023 delivery date by changing to Large pack I would probably do so. But without any assurance, why change the configuration?

So as it is I'll probably wait until the Quad + Max pack comes out. By that point I'll probably be able to compare the R1T to the Silverado and Cybertruck. That seems like a situation that is likely to result in a lot of lost sales.

I bet if you switched you would get a first half 2023 window (April-June?), but based on how they claim to be updating, you would not know that for sure until January. That is the next stated month they will update delivery estimates.

In an interview with Tony C on Rivian Stories this weekend he did say there would be "news" for Max pack orders "in the coming weeks". Take that for what it's worth - January is weeks away too...

What are these 8 states?
Per Rivian's S-1 filing on page 139:
eight states prohibit us, as a manufacturer, from directly or indirectly owning or operating a service center providing warranty service. Those states are Alabama, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
Now it seems Pennsylvania and New Jersey are still getting dates given out. It could be that Rivian has a work around for those states, or they are just biting the bullet and doing sales there are they are big states with lots of orders?

Correct me if I am wrong but the 8 states do not include New Jersey ... Tesla sells and services in NJ.

That was from a post from Rivians S-1 filling. It could be old or misinformation? Maybe Rivian found a workaround? I hope they find a few more workarounds :)
