Yes and no.

I think we're in the same boat. I had a "first half of 2023" delivery window (pushed back from Oct-Dec 2022).

Last Friday I got the "Processing Estimate" with verbiage suggesting that I'm indefinitely delayed until they finalize plans for a service center in my area.

The weird part is that I'm less than 5 miles from an open, active service center (Memphis). I've been there, and most of the vehicles in for service were brought from Nashville, which is 200 miles to the east.

There is at least one person here with an R1T delivered months ago, who has a 2021 R1S order and a delivery window.

I have an October 2019 order, and no window at all anymore, just a promise of an update in January.

I sent an email the day the new estimates came out, and sent a followup a week later. Still no response to either one in spite of the "we usually respond within one business day" on the website.

Rivian's communication is simply awful and maddening. If they don't have the bandwidth to respond to emails in a week or so, they should just say that. If certain colors or configurations are no longer planned for production, they should just say that (to be fair, they were open about the ocean coast delays, and the explore configuration).
Email’s fairly useless since they seem to have more volume than they can handle. It takes weeks. Calling or using the chat thing on the website both are responsive.

im pretty sure Rivian doesnt have the same urgency to ramp production of the R1S like they did the R1T. scaling the R1T was critical for survival, figuring out scale, supply chain logistics, getting the first electric truck to market. then it was key for them to get the EDV production figured out and delivered to Amazon. fail there and wall street would likely bury them and press would be bad.

the R1S you would think was next, and maybe was at some point but i think they've deprioritized it.

they dont have much incentive to ramp up the R1S quickly and in fact might be more beneficial to slow the ramp. here's why i think they are slowing the R1S ramp.

i think they want to prioritize the designed and built in-house dual motor. this will likely give them the highest profit margin on all their vehicles moving forward all other things being equal. if they can get this figured out and manufactured, im guessing you will see Rivian start to give quad order customers the option to switch to dual if they want their vehicles sooner, probably for the same price that they currently have their quad priced.

why? they know the quad pre-3/1 is underpriced. each one they sell is a loss for them or very little profit. if they can get some customers to switch, that helps their margins.

slowing the R1S production and moving these windows back will also lead to some cancellations. they know this and know it will cause some level of customer dissatisfaction but its a trade off.

i think they will continue to scale and deliver lots of R1Ts and EDVs because they have production for that more dialed in and need to continue to increase their overall production numbers to keep investors happy. it wouldnt surprise me if they also start offering quad motor orders, who are pre-3/1 pricing, the dual motor if they want the truck sooner.

to me that makes business sense. sucks for us pre-3/1 R1S orders the most but it may what they need to survive and then long term thats better for all.

I have a dual motor R1T with scheduled delivery of July-September 2023

I was thinking the dual motors would be delivered in 2024 so I am caught a little unprepared but trying to see if I can get everything in order to receive delivery of it this next year.

That date will likely be punted.....

Even if u get a response, historically you can't use that as definitive to make plans, etc

Hi all--

I ordered Jan 22 - RiT, Large battery, adventure....not sure what else matters. and today got a "It's time to confirm your configuration!" with a note saying "Exciting news--we're ready to build your vehicle". Anybody know how long the process is from here?

Sorry to be annoying, but my window they just gave me was Apr-Jun 2023, and I am not in a hurry. It says I can call my Rivian Guide to make changes. I was thinking of delaying until the new powered tonneau is ready. But I'd appreciate any wisdom from anyone who got a similar email along the way... and apologies to all of you who are in a hurry.

I just got the same email, I was given a July-September 2023 window. Rushed to the forum to see what was going on.

im currently configured at about $82000. For me to get the $7500 tax credit using that purchase order loophole, should I trim my configuration down to under $80000?

My original window was Nov-Dec 2022, then last month as part of the big readjustment it was moved to Jan-Feb 2023... now today I just got the "It's time to confirm your configuration!" with a note saying "Exciting news--we're ready to build your vehicle" email.

Config is in my signature.
