I'm calling Ford today. I don't mind signing a "no-resale" policy as I don't plan to sell it for a year but I don't want to pay all this money and have a lien on the truck - that's just nonsense. Appreciate everyone's feedback - sometimes you just need re-affirmation (even though my brain works well enough and I know what I should do). I'm likely going to back out of this if they don't give me that option.

After seeing my delivery estimate as "Processing" I got fed up and called my local Ford dealer who had ordered an F-150 Lariat for me. I told them back in August, when they called me, that I wasn't going to buy it but found out yesterday and it's still under my name and I have to formally tell them I don't want it so they can sell it to someone else. Based on the fact that Rivian is still processing my estimate, I doubt I'll get the R1T in my hands until 2024, I went into the Ford dealership and put my deposit down. I get my lightning between Nov 7th-13th (as per the Ford dealership system) but they told me it may be a few weeks later because it's happened a few times with other deliveries. Hoping to get delivery before end of year.

I decided to buy time and get into the F-150 Lariat 511A until my Rivian turn comes up and if I still desire it. 2024 is a long ways away. I still find the Rivian as the perfect size truck for me. I drive a Rigeline and the F-150 was always a little too big for my needs but things have changed ie I no longer need to park underground in Downtown Toronto and I do love the frunk way more than the Rivian - easier to get things in and out. Plus I store my tools in the Ridgeline in-bed truck so the frunk is a great spot for them.

Ford is doing something that I am not sure they are allowed to. I am paying cash. After taxes it's $126k CDN. Pricey indeed. I have to sign an agreement that I can't sell the vehicle for 6 months and 15,000km (not or). The vehicle will be in the dealership's name until I hit 15,000km (minimum 6 months and until I hit 15km), then I take the truck back to the dealership. They'll charge $199 for a safety (money making scam) and do a transfer and switch the ownership under my name. Effectively, I pay full price for the truck but it's not mine until I hit the threshold - basically a lien on the vehicle. Apparently, Ford Canada is penalizing the dealers if owners export the vehicle which is apparently happening with their desirable vehicles (F-150 Lightning, Mach-E and Bronco). So this is their way of getting the dealers to get owners to sign up.

Has anyone heard of this? and are there any gotcha's if anyone else that may have gone down this road?

Any advice welcomed.
The documentation is optional and handled on a case by case basis. My dealer sold it to me at MSRP and didn’t require any paperwork to be signed. Even if your dealer requires it, the title is still in your name, not the dealers.

You may have better luck on www.f150lightningforum.com with this as well

Just to provide an update. I told the other dealer to F-off. Found a really nice dealer just outside the city. Amazing. Deal was done in 15 minutes and picked up the truck the next day. It's a beaut. Will wait now for the Rivian and figure out what works best for me. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I still had to sign a non-export agreement for 6months which is fine by me. But the truck is mine completely. Loving it so far.

Absolutely under no circumstances would I allow the dealer to hold title to the car until you reach X-amoung of miles of km's!! Are you actually signing this??

I own the title. There is no lien. I just had to agree to the non-export document.

Thank you! Fair enough! Stunning F150. I have until Jan 12th to complete my F150 Lightning order, but the price has gone through the roof!

It has. With a further $4k increase pending. Thankfully that wasn’t applied to my purchase. Nevertheless it was an expensive vehicle. This dealer gave me $9k extra for my trade-in vs the other dealer so it felt like I was saving money. Lol.
