362 days from order to 8 steps

I ordered my R1T on 1/15/22 and was ecstatic to receive my email opening the 8 steps this morning. I’ve already completed steps 1-3 & 6. I should have my proof of insurance by end of day. We’re supposed to be road tripping from ft worth to northern New Mexico on 1/30. Any guesses on if it would be possible to have the truck by then?
Rivian blue with ocean coast in 20” AT if anybody Is curious.

8-steps to delivery is about a month usually. Can be faster, but I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks! I was trying to time the trip with the arrival of the truck but also was going to go regardless of having it. I literally booked everything last night. I know it’s not likely but am still hoping It’ll arrive in time.

It all depends on where you truck is and when they open up step 8. Your guide might be able to give you some insight, but that last step is in the hands of the delivery team. Once that step opens you’ll have to find an available delivery slot. Depending on whether that’s home delivery or SC pickup that can determine how quick you’ll get the truck.

Good to know. That’s what I was suspecting but wasn’t sure. Fingers crossed it’s already on a train car somewhere. Or even better, at the service center.

If the 8-steps opened it should be at the service center, but it may not have the pre-delivery inspection complete. That’s the step that opens up step 8. This is why they are telling folks not to pay for the vehicle or insurance until you have a delivery date.

Oh really? I was thinking that 8 steps opened once manufacturing of your model had completed and it was the shipping that was typically the most rate limiting step to prolonging delivery.

Oh really? I was thinking that 8 steps opened once manufacturing of your model had completed and it was the shipping that was typically the most rate limiting step to prolonging delivery.

My Guide told me no rush to finish the payment and insurance steps yet because even though I had a VIN... my truck hadn't been built quite yet.
His advice was "only make payment and get insurance after the SC reaches out to you and you agree on a delivery date" then he added "when close to your delivery day- then pay and provide insurance docs".

Interesting, I would have Thought the truck would at least be manufactured before assigning the vin. I guess I should contact my guide and talk to her soon.

I have seen reports of it both ways. Truck at SC or in transit and 8-steps opens. I think there are a lot of variable that come into play right now as they try to ramp and get vehicles delivered asap.

The reason they don’t want you to pay without a delivery date is that if it fails the pre-delivery inspection you could have a longer wait while they fix the vehicle or replace it.

I was a little surprised by it but haven’t been paying enough attention to VIN to make too much of it.
