This one, that one and the other one.

Probably prefer the slotted design more, but went with the logos (square's). With 1EV having reduced how many of them there are, they look far less busy now. My deciding factor however, is that they have very thin cutouts versus the slots being bigger holes. Guessing, the logo design will not let any dirt and grime through from the bottom due to how thin they are cut? Possibly won't be an issue with either one, but went with the odds just to be safe and they don't look bad now with the reduced number of logos.

Hi EV sportsline,

Have you found removal of the panels as difficult as referenced in this other thread?

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/jack-pucks-vs-removing-panels.11595/post-264615

Reading this makes me hesitant to think that putting the panels back will even be possible after taking off for running board installation. Will you provide very specific instructions so we do not break clips in the process of installation? I really would like to cut the panel and replace after installation of the running boards. Thanks!

If you have any pictures of the clip and/or retainer area, please post. This doesn't sound good.

Squares vs. slots...lots of debate here.

If using the truck anywhere in a wet environment, I'd likely lean toward the slots with the thought being they are big enough that the treads of your shoes will have more surface area to bite into ... and not be so slick.

I believe you can leave them off. I have a mobile appt with a Rivian Tech next week and will ask for his opinion on leaving off

Understanding is that you need to take them off to install the boards. Modify them if you want to reinstall the panels.

I guess I really want to know if they are necessary. What is their purpose?

Asked same question a few days ago. Told mostly cosmetic. But that being said, I'd like to have the option to reinstall them if I wish...

Most likely for aiding in making the sides of the car more aerodynamic, and with that, reduce noise.

That said, with the sidesteps there, one can argue whether they still have value in that respect.

Removing panels : The 4 corner panels are not bad to pull off...couple bolts and off the come. The 2 center plastic panels are held in with clips & double sided tape and needs pulled off - it's very doable, but sounds worse than it is and it takes some effort to yank it off.

You need to pull them off to install the running boards. However, it's optional to put them back on. You can leave them off, it's not a big deal, especially with the running board serving as protection. The covers are just thin plastic, there is no real protection here - the covers have nothing to do with the RUS. To put the plastic covers back on, you'll need to do some minor trimming to make clearance for our running board brackets. We include a template & instructions. Our install video should be up next week, you'll see it in detail.

This is what the trimming looks like:
