Hi EV sportsline,

Have you found removal of the panels as difficult as referenced in this other thread?

Reading this makes me hesitant to think that putting the panels back will even be possible after taking off for running board installation. Will you provide very specific instructions so we do not break clips in the process of installation? I really would like to cut the panel and replace after installation of the running boards. Thanks!

I have a concern too. I was hoping that I would be able to use their template that they said they would send; easily taping it to the plastic panels, and making the cut outs with the panels in place with a Dremel. Then, that would need to be done is to thread the hardware through the cut outs and bolt the hardware on the running boards. EV sportsline, is that not possible to do?

Totally doable. If you have a Dremel, you're good. The slot will need a little clearance added to it for the bolt to be reached, something like this:

you'll need to wiggle this bracket through too.

In fact, we've done this! Here is a pic - please excuse the crude cutting, this is from way back when we were protoyping. This bracket can be installed and removed, WITHOUT pulling the plastic:

Great! That means I won't risk breaking any clips on the plastic panels by removing them and then later trying to re-clip them to get them back on. Thanks EV sportline for that update. I'm on board with that option.

I believe you still will have to remove the panels initially to screw the brackets to the truck and it’s optional to reinstall the plastic panels or leave them off

From EV sportsline post above it appears you can just cut a well placed hole, screw in the bracket, and then screw the running board to the extruded bracket, all without removing the plastic panel. If so, that would be great!

That would be awesome. Hopefully there's some local fiducial-like marker in the plastic that the template can reference to. I'm confident I'll figure it out in any case, maybe just loosening the plastic and peeking up in there will be enough to make sure the holes end up in the right place.

No. We were supposed to do the install / video Friday, so we could include quality photos and video in the email. FedEx failed to deliver our overnighted bolts, and our local Rivian customer with a pre-order had to change plans last minute....so Monday we shoot pics and install video!

That said, any pre-order running board customer who can be in ATL on monday AM for a free install....well, PM me!

Looking at this picture, the squares appear to not be a symmetric design (meaning left-to-right on the vehicle). Is the slot design symmetric? Because that may decide it for me if that's the case. I would be annoyed if the pattern swept forward on one side and backward on the other.

Or maybe I'm seeing something wrong something in the photo.

The plates are reversible, they said several pages back.

The plates are reversal, they said several pages back.

They said you could swap them left-to-right, but that doesn't change the pattern if you have to "spin" them around the trucks Z-axis. To flip the pattern, you have to flip them so the bottom becomes the top.

I'm not sure if there's a difference between the top and bottom of the plate. If there is a difference, they'll have to cut out 2 different designs or the pattern will always be swept in different directions on the left-and-right.

The design should appear "swept back" or ("swept forward") with respect to the front of the vehicle which means they would be a different design for each side. If the same design is used for each, then that would make it asymmetric in my view.
