Any of those options would be welcome compared to what they are planning to make. I think Musk's luck will run out with this one...

this is silly. “Someone asked an image compiling algorithm to put together tesla and pick up truck and it made something less worse than Elon musk’s strung out triangle fever dream”

no shit

If Elon Musk has taught us anything over the last year. If you are rich enough, you can do whatever the heck you want. He "runs" 3 companies, had kids with 2 separate women within months of each other, raises prices, lowers prices, raises and lowers them again within weeks for entry level Teslas.... Even if he lost 99% of his net worth from all of his shenanigans, he'd still be richer than 99.99% of Americans. If he wants to design an ugly-ass truck, people will buy it. It may not sell well, but he'll still be rich AF and can still continue to do whatever he wants.

Rivian R1T R1S Cybertruck didn't need to go ugly early - Autoevolution article 1676395067782

Elon's Edsel?

"One of the apparent reasons for the failure of Ford's Edsel line of cars is the appearance. People did not find the car attractive, and the semi-powerful engines under the hood didn’t change people’s minds. Simply put, the car couldn’t compete in this category with the other rides of the time. Another big reason for the car’s failure was out of the hands of the company. At the time, the country was experiencing an economic recession. Due to this, people were in the market for cheaper cars. It’s for this reason the VW Beetle took off so much. Many other higher-end brands suffered during this time.

One of Ford's biggest mistakes regarding the Edsel is the lack of market research. It has been said that there were almost no efforts to ensure people wanted these cars. This mistake cost the company about $250 million and a lifetime of embarrassment for all involved with Edsel. Overall, they lost about $350 million, according to Business Insider.

Perhaps the biggest reason for the Edsel's failure is a number of quality and reliability issues. For example, some of the trunks leaked, there were some welding issues, and also many damaged wires due to being installed too close to the exhaust. Also, the automaker sent some of the cars to dealers without having been finished."

I have seen the concept truck in person. I looked at the truck from every angle for a full 20 minutes. It’s actually attractive in the flesh. 2D Videos and photos don’t do it justice.

With well over 1 million deposits the Cybertruck qualifies as a bonafide hit. Rivian is blessed that it’s R1T currently doesn’t compete with Cybertruck.

It's "attractive" to YOU. Which is perfectly fine, but it does not mean everyone or even a majority of EV shoppers will agree. You can't deny it's a polarizing design, which comes with a certain amount of risk right there. And you are taking Elon's word for it there are "1 million" reservations. We are talking about a pathological liar here. Very little of what he says can be assumed to be true.

It's also well documented that often people have multiple $100 deposits on EVs they are considering, so banking on all "1 million" of those sticking it all the way through is a bit premature. Even assuming that most Tesla fans who love this thing will want a full size truck is premature.

I'm sure there will be plenty who initially are interested in the CT. My guess is that will drop off quickly after the initial excitement. It's another masturbatory Musk project like the boring company or a "flamethrower."

These renders are also ugly. Granted I wasn't totally sold on the Rivian front end but it looks a lot better in person, and wasn't enough to stop me from ordering.

I might have put a deposit down on one of these renders but likely would have cancelled it by now.

agreed, I feel less of myself for having clicked on this thinking there was some legitimacy.

I'm not a fan of the cybertruck's appearance, but it's a lot better than the renders in the OP link.

I know someone who put in a reservation because their 15 year old son was going bonkers over the CT. The parents have no intention of actually buying the truck, but if the kid wants to buy it on his own if it ever ships, the reservation is in. Of course, how many 18-20 year olds could afford this truck? IMO there are tons of reservations that were done on a $100 whim, and the drop rate will be high.

Deposits aren’t sales. And a lot of time, people have more than one deposit at a time on multiple vehicles, like I did, and so far I have only converted one of 5 to an actual purchase. Some people put a deposit down just to brag about it. I’m sure Tesla will sell a lot of them, some people love the Tesla juice. But I think it’s naive to think it’s going to be anywhere near a million of them. The F150 has sold around 650k-900k a year the last 10 years.

Given that stainless steel is more expensive than normal automotive steel, combined with all the other promised goodies on this truck and the size of it I am very curious where they price it. I don't see how they price it less than an X.
