How expensive is your registration?

According to the CA DMV, all pickups in California are commercial unless they have camper attached. If they have a camper they can be registered as a passenger or a commercial vehicle. If you were able to get yours registered as a passenger vehicle you are lucky. The additional weight fee is because the gross vehicle weight puts it in the class of a 3/4 ton pickup.

My 2020 Ram 2500 was $980 last year. My Rivian was just over $1000 last year. I should have received a renewal by now but it hasn't shown up yet. The DMV website is telling me $1119 for this year.

Why more this yr?.

When I drove through Texas the EA stations were crazy cheap, I was paying around 8 bucks including tax for 73 kw.

On I-10 Texas is almost half the drive from Pensacola, FL to Palm Springs, CA, total charge cost at all EA stations for that drive was $160.00 Mostly because how cheap Texas was.

Anyone making that drive plan as many charges in Texas as you can get.

People have to remember. Property tax (for the most part, and sales tax) are the only self inflicted taxes. You don't need a $2M house, expensive clothes, liquor, etc....
In TX, FL, WY you can minimize those taxes. In states like CA, NJ, NY, MN, OR that's not the case and you pay the piper.

I own a $500k 1600sqft house in FL and pay $9k/yr in property tax even with homestead.

I have a good friend that lives in Prosper, his utilities are crazy and he said it was normal for Texas. Maybe it's just his house is too big.

I can't wait to get out of this state. $1172 a year isn't the end of the world, but it sure feels excessive. My 2019 GX460 is under $400... I guess the state would rather I drive my gas guzzling V8 than my R1T. I'll pay this extortive bill and sleep better knowing I only have to pay this one more time, because I'm out of here in under 2 years. What state are you in and how much do you pay to register your Rivian?

Maybe I am not understanding what you are asking/showing, but to register a vehicle on Florida is :

$47/year for 2020 Mazda CX-5
$37/year for 2020 Nissan Altima

Since its by weight, my Rivian will be more, maybe $60-70/year (?). What CA invoice are you showing there that is $1172? It can't be for the license plate sticker for a year is it?

Why more this yr?.

I know the VLF portion of the registration is based on a percentage of the value of the vehicle. Maybe it went up in value ? I think it may be because they now have an embedded $175 yearly fee for "expensive" EVs in the registration portion of the bill. Although I expected that to be listed as a separate line item.
