That’s fair but I already have an R1T that won’t be getting replaced so if I need to tow that’s going to be doing it.

We also drove the iX a couple months ago. Wonderful car and my wife loved it. I've read forums where people are getting 370 miles out of a charge, so that would be really welcomed. I agree that the buck tooth grill is ugly as hell, but other than that it's a nice looking vehicle. Don't know why they made it so big, it's not like it needs airflow. My R1S reservation is from july '22, so I've still got time before that will be available. Could pull the string on the iX now, but we don't really NEED a new car right now so why not wait a bit? Also waiting to see what the Q6 Etron and Macan look like.

Yeah I want to see the Porsche too. My wife wants an SUV but we don’t really need one. We have the T for truck type things and road trips and we only have one kid so don’t really need some massive family truckster.

I really want a sports car but I can’t get one simply because I need a truck on a fairly regular basis. I refuse to have another vehicle as we already have 4 with our two bikes. If I can convince her to go sporty with her pick I can just drive that to satisfy my needs.

I have both the iX and the R1S. Love them both. Overall, my wife prefers the iX and I prefer the R1S.

Range is fantastic on the iX (materially better than R1S), and ride quality is very good.

A few obvious differences beyond the looks. The Rivian is a much bigger vehicle. It's 7 seats, with a huge frunk. The iX is a 5 seater with no frunk. Rivian feels more like driving a truck, while iX is a sporty mid size SUV - acceleration is fantastic on both of course.

Would go Rivian f you need the 7 seats or storage space. If you will do any off roading or camping (or maybe even frequent skiing/biking surfing) would push towards Rivian as well.

If it's a soccer mom car, iX is the better option.

My wife mostly drives our model y performance so we went to try out the iX for a fun comparison, but we were genuinely curious if it would blow us away and make us consider it.

We were not fans of the really wobbly frameless windows on door closing, made the Tesla seem like a Bentley. Interior fit and finish was excellent, the bower and Wilkins upgraded audio system did not impress as much as I expected. At highway speeds I preferred the sound of the Tesla Y, at stop in absolute quiet the BW sounded better. The drive with the iX was smoother and quieter than both the Rivian and the Tesla. We could not get the AC to work in the iX (even at it’s “max AC” setting and everything set to low), it was blowing out mildly warm air, it was colder outside, we ran it for about 20 minutes no change, the salesperson was surprised as well. The regenerative breaking was also really pathetic even at its most aggressive setting.

We happened to go to the dealership with the R1T, the salesperson asked if we would consider trading in to the dealership I said I wasn’t thinking about it, but asked what they’d offer…. For my 2023, 1k on the odometer R1T black mountain 20 inch dark, reinforced underbody they offered to take it off my hands for $63k final. I started laughing, thanked them for the test drive and drove off. My pre march msrp was $80k and currently going for mid $90k msrp, so I was a little offended even though I had no intention of a trade in or selling.

To be frank the whole experience being back at a dealership after a few teslas and a Rivian, even with some of the neat iX features it made me appreciate both our R1T and Tesla Y performance so much more. I’ve complained a bit about lengthy waits for service and some issues I’m having, but there really isn’t much better out there at the moment and with all the problems CS with these “new” direct to consumer car companies are so much better than dealership model.

Your BMW dealer sounds like our local Mercedes dealer. They are some real pirates over there, you need to wear some steel underwear to make sure you don't get screwed when you go to look for a car there.
