R1S Shop access live with lots of inventory!

Yep. Don't believe any claim by a Rivian employee that preorder date is the primary factor affecting the order that Shop invitations are sent out. I reserved in February of 2019 and got Shop access three weeks ago.

If you're an optimist, you could look at my statistic and conclude that the line moves very quickly ... invitations have advanced from early 2019 to early 2021 in just 3 weeks.

For the realists: Did anyone with a preorder date after 2/14/19 get Shop access before 4/26/23? Maybe just a few. Peruse the first 83 pages of this thread.

There's no doubt that they've ramped up R1S production in the last month or two. That should obviously make things move a lot faster for everyone getting shop access or their specific configuration. Someone who did a factory tour said it was 2 or 3 R1S for every R1T on the line. They've clearly gotten through the R1T backlog except for max pack and people who aren't in the current delivery areas, and have shifted to an R1S-heavy production mix to try to get through the S backlog. We'll never know the ratio of R1T to R1S purchases, but there's some evidence that R1S is a little more popular.

Numerous is probably overstating it. I think we've got 2 or 3 in here. Doesn't make it any less frustrating to see even those, but I seriously doubt it's anywhere near widespread.

I had to go back and correct my original post when I realized I put 2022 when in fact I ordered in 21. First preorder was in Jan 21 and then I cancelled in April 21, to then reorder in Dec 21. Sorry for the confusion. Regardless I see your point as my original reservation shouldn’t count as I canceled it and reordered 11 months later.

I got shop access with a Sept 2022 order date for R1S. Picked up my R1S last week.

The key is getting your first mile drive.

My $0.02 - while sending it out in waves is the standard guideline, I think a few CS reps/guides are being lenient towards this, while the others are strict, and that’s causing the chaos and frustration.

I agree. I have now had a few interactions with CS, a couple by phone and one by chat. While all have been incredibly nice, when I gently nudge toward my request for shop access, they all say they don't have that ability. They also tell me only 2019 and 2020 pre-order holders are getting access and that no 2021 or later has. I can appreciate them wanting to keep some kind of order in light of the ones that allow folks to skip ahead, but they are knowingly lying to us, which doesn't sit well. I also wonder how these people we hear about getting early access just magically stumble upon the lenient CS reps on their first try. I know I'm the most unlucky guy in the world, but this really drives it home. Ha!

I don't necessarily think it's completely random. I just got lucky. I play basketball at a local park. It turns out that rivian does their first drives out of that exact park. I saw a couple of rivians there so I started talking to the guys. They told me that first drives are offered only to those that have deliveries in the near future. I asked them to do me a solid and hook me up with a first drive. They looked into the schedule and were able to schedule me for a week later.

During the first drive I asked to shop access or a guide. They said they'd see what they could do. And 3 weeks later I get the notice.

I definitely get it. I've gone through many stages in this process. I have been a huge fanboy for the company and have gushed about them to so many people. Then, I see all the stories about people getting theirs really early and skipping past me. That's when I enter the "WTF" stage, especially after getting shot down by CS at every turn. I constantly remind myself that there are 2019 pre-orders that haven't been fulfilled, which keeps it in perspective for me. However, the longer this continues, it just makes me wonder if I will ever get my R1S, as it seems some people's orders just fall through the cracks. I understand that may not be a rational thought/concern, but that's kinda my point in all this rambling. With all the shenanigans going on, it has the ability to psychologically beat people down. So...I will now go back to refreshing my email every 10 minutes like the irrational being I am, while also wondering how I ever let a vehicle drive me to this level of obsession.
