If it comes back up. There are may that are down indefinitely. My guess is that admins are going to try to let this blow over, and this will need to stretch on.

That is a shame as it is disruptive to have the site down for a potentially undetermined period.

I would think the disruptiveness is sort of the point. It has to hurt Reddit's business if the people doing it have a hope to get them to change their policies.

I don't know about r/Rivian specifically, but many subreddit moderators use third-party apps for their moderation because Reddit's own mod features are garbage. New Reddit is especially awful for moderators, with several critical mod functions not even functional at a basic level.

Yeah, after the changes go into effect, I won't be checking reddit on my phone since most if not all 3rd party apps are shutting down. Might even considering dropping reddit entirely because of how boneheaded and greedy they were with this move.

For awhile I've felt that on the larger subreddits there was a little too much hivemind. Constant front page posts where people make assumptions based on title and didn't even read the article. R/rivian wasn't bad (nor many of the other small subreddits), but overall I wouldn't mind if this put a big dent in reddit's traffic.

Twitter I feel is even worse, though.

Meta is supposed to announce a twitter alternative, this would've been a great time for them to launch.

Agree it was the point. Also a fact that is is a shame for those of us who like to read the articles.

Yeah, that's the goal, but IMO the only result will be some "feel good" because they thought they made their point by sticking it to Reddit for a few days.

Reddit is not going to change their policy. This API lockdown is not just about Reddit getting more revenue from ads or app developers, it's about controlling, protecting and licensing the vast Reddit "knowledge base" for future AI model training. The lost revenue from the blackout is insignificant in the bigger, long term picture.

I haven't been on Reddit all day. That in it self feels good.

I think this will likely drag on. I do think the admins are going to cave somewhat by reducing pricing or whatnot.
