My R1s 21" tires are about 5k in with 90% all purpose mode driving. I really don't see any difference from the front and rear tires. Is it neccessary to rotate at 7k miles as recommended still?

Is 7k the officially recommended number now?

I personally would definitely rotate them, probably I would even sooner than 7k

Tire rotation is mainly to prolong the tire life. The tire replacement is going to cost you ~$2k so the $50-100 for rotation is small if you get a longer tire life.
I would get a tire gauge and measure all tires in the middle, inside and outside. If all measurements are even then maybe delay the rotation. I did mine at 7,500mi

Rivian service told me 7500 miles so that's what I did. Rears were 7/32 and fronts were 6/32.

I've been doing 5-tire rotations every ~5k miles.

I rotated at Discount Tire/America's Tire with just under 5000 miles (that's what they recommended).

It was free of charge as I bought the insurance certificates with them ($245 total) for all four of my 20 ATs. (Did the same when I first got my Model 3 with the OEM tires, and they replaced my flat tire free of charge once.)

I heard that they/Rivian charge $60 for each rotation, so the certificates are breaking even at 4 rotations plus you get free replacements for flat tires.

What other shops have you guys been using for rotations? My nearest Discount Tire / America's Tire is over 2 hours away. My nearest chain is a Mavis and the team is nice but not sticklers for detail.

if you have the pucks, wouldn't any tires shop would be able to do this with two 3 tons jacks? I got a flat tire a month ago and the closest place is a mom and pop tire shop. They were able to jack it up with their in house jack with my puck

That's a great idea! I will do the same. Plus there is a discount tire shop like 3 miles from my house.

Thanks! Just had a bad experience 2 of the 3 shops near me and the Rivian is the most expensive car I've ever owned :)

I'm considering doing the same. I've already got the pucks sitting in the truck

They don't. Several people sell them and there are a few flavors. The main difference is magnetic or not for convenience.

Here's one vendor:

I happen to have the 1EV non magnetic ones (cheapest from a vendor I trust). Havent had to use them yet but when its time to rotate i'm having a local shop do them and there's zero chance they have the pucks. Plus if you get a flat and dont have a spare (or jack) then its patch and fill if possible or a tire change which needs the pucks (and a tire...)

Once reason I went with the 20" tires is there are more options. Plus they look better to me ?
