I completely agree. I am also more concerned with them building a quality product than telling me about a product they’ll build… only to have parts fall off or some other gaffe.
There’s no reason they can’t do both.

Many of the whiners are many, many months from delivery and will have lots of time to digest the details of the interior (or whatever their particular pet peeve is) before committing to a purchase.
Whiners? Really? People have valid concerns and questions. That’s not “whining”.

I’ve heard on multiple occasions they plan on having all LE reservations out in 2021.
From who? Rivian actual? Please point me toward this statement.

I've seen this multiple places as well, and it seems to be a fact that has been repeated enough to actually become fact. (like carrots are good for your eyes, or men think about sex every 7 seconds) My understanding is there has been no official communication about delivery dates, LE or otherwise - just speculation based on the previous guidance on deliveries starting in June / non-LE delivery dates. Everyone assumes that the all of the LE's will be delivered prior to other models, and that very much many not be the case. Take a look at the fiasco that was the Jeep Gladiator Launch Edition rollout. I received my custom ordered JT before TONS of LE's were delivered.

The last few pages of this thread shouldn't even be happening. That fact that it is points out that the communication plan to date has been bungled. While it might not matter to you, it does to others - whiners or not.

BTW - calling people names on a random car forum because you disagree with them is kind of a dick move. Can we all just agree to not do that?

Well, I did think about sex twice while reading your post, so part of that may be true.
(note: neither thought had anything to do with your mention of carrots or “dick moves”)

On a more serious note, I too have wondered where the references to some official or quasi-official statement from Rivian that LEs would be delivered in 2021 have come from. Although likely that they will complete before delivering non-LEs in January, it’s also likely that there may be overlap with LEs still delivering into 2022. The LE configuration isn’t so uniquely different that the two couldn’t still come down the same production line for some time.

I think it was pieced together from 2 statements. 1st being that CS told someone that all R1T LE orders would be delivered before the first non LE R1T orders are produced. The 2nd bring that production of non LE will start in Jan '22.

Therefore one could interpret those two distinct pieces of info as saying all R1T LEs will be delivered before January of 2022, aka end of 2021.

Just don't go asking me to find those original posts ?. But that's how I remember it anyway.

There's a third anecdote that also points towards LE deliveries being complete in 2021: Rivian has said guides will have contacted all LE reservation holders by Thanksgiving...

Given that guides still haven't reached out to any LE reservation holders and we expect June deliveries, then Rivian either won't meet their self-imposed deadline OR they need ~4 weeks or less between finalizing an order and delivery.

Going with the positive outcome that delivers will start in June, that tells us that if the last LE reservation holders are contacted by Thanksgiving, then they should surely be delivered before the end of 2021.

Not the first time I've been called a whiner today!

In a ideal world you are correct. To me it certainly seems like the company made a decision to focus on things other than communications and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think any of us know what’s going on inside any Rivian location to say with certainty that they are prioritizing incorrectly. For now.

If they launch the product late or they deliver something that has quality issues then I have no problem discussing their failure(s). I just think it’s premature for that.

Ultimately, I guess I see both sides.

Some people have been waiting since 2018 for their R1T or R1S. Patience is one of my weak areas, especially when there’s a delay beyond the initial wait, so I get the frustration.

On the other hand, I know that I live a very comfortable life and for me to complain about having to wait for my $80,000 SUV (I feel ancient writing this but that’s more than my first house) makes me feel like I need to keep my perspective because this is clearly a first world problem. If that is my biggest frustration in my daily life then by all objective measures things are going pretty well for me.

So, I’m willing to wait for them to reach their deadlines. We’ll know soon enough if they meet the start of Guide contacts goal, and a month later we’ll see what they have delivered to customer(s), if anything. I can be that patient.

Don’t think you’ll get many arguments on that point! Comms is my main Issue, not a delay. Give me bad news early and straight. Especially if you’re marketing yourself as “transparent”.

Yeah, and I think they created high expectations because of their stated philosophy of under promise and over deliver. That only works if nobody knows you’re doing it. If a customer expects you to over deliver then delivering (or less) doesn’t meet expectations, over delivering barely meets their expectations, and you have to do something stellar to exceed their expectations.

And page upon page of unanswered questions on forums that will all end up in that guide’s lap. Soon. Very soon. ?

I have to agree, they are not only being trained on all of the features, operation, and options on the vehicle.

They also are being trained to facilitate helping with the purchase process, insurance, delivery, scheduling maintenance, etc.
