I’m sure at some point Rivian will enable WiFi to work while driving. Might not be until the existing cellular radios age out.

Tesla used to only connect to WiFi when parked but when the 3g radios started aging out they enabled connection while driving in one of the OTAs.

Few thoughts.
1) Your case is unique being they only sell in the US and roaming data is not feasible, but out in a feature request for wifi when driving and perhaps it will come in time I bet... Or not as...

2) GM is doing similar. Without an OnStar data plan, could use any vehicle music or Google Maps, even Android Auto or Carplay would not work. Know this ad my Hummer EV data plan with OnStst messed up a few times leaving things all stuck.

4) agree that they will probably offer some basic and premium tiers. Should be affordable like a streaming service, and for most of can afford a 70-100k USD auto.

I agree with OP, WiFi connection while driving is an essential feature. Cellular modems in vehicles are generally superfluous bits of quickly outdated technology. Your phone / hotspot will stay up to date over the decades that this thing is on the road. Customers ought to be able to buy one data plan and use it for all of our devices. The Phone hotspot works fine for nearly everything. Vehicles should be no exception. .

Rivian needs to retofit/enable sat radio. When I drive to the coast or up to snowshoe, WV I lose cell service regularly.

That is no different than my Escalade., this is not something esclusive to Rivian. You pay to play.

Sorry if I missed it, but can you explain where you are? I assume you're not in Iran, or North Korea, or somewhere like that. Is there normally AT&T coverage service in your region?

I assume by the time this becomes more common, Rivian should have agreements with various regional cellular carriers? #shrug ?

You can connect your phone to the Rivian audio system and stream over bluetooth. You don't need to use the camp speaker.

Yeah I did this. Sound quality was noticeably diminished vs Rivian native Spotify. Alex does work so I can’t do any hands free while driving either. Which seems strange since my phone is still connected via Bluetooth.

Try a better streaming service. Spotify quality is terrible -- even with the native app in the R1T.

I will try this. I’m open to any workarounds. How do I get handsfree back. Not sure why Alexa needs data to start a call with a contact on my phone.

There is likely no plan to offer.

Cell service available to U.S. carriers in remote places is often a series of contracts. There's likely a limitation to who can be offered what connections.

Think of it like roaming, without the roaming icon on your phone.

My phone worked through T-Mobile off a remote island in Greenland at like 75°N with supposed LTE, but was dirt slow. YM(obile)MV
