Yeah I am wondering about that. But with electric motors efficiency I imagine this 3% "faster spinning" isn't as much of a factor, vs a gas engine power curve. And would likely be more than made up for by the reduced weight (rotational weight).

From what I can find, the 275/55/20 are the same weight as the stock 21" tire (37lbs), while the 275/60/20 are 1 lb heavier (38).

Running higher PSI may also help a bit. As well as improve cornering performance a bit together with the smaller sidewall.

I switched to the Pirelli AS 3 plus 275/60/20. The load rating is 115H
Thanks. That's actually the load index, not the load range/rating. Looks like a 115H is a bit low for the weight of the truck, if you don't load up your truck it shouldn't make a difference though. Has anyone put an LT tire on these trucks?

I have been thinking about these to help with the warm weather grip:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...all=Blackwall&partnum=75VR1PS4SUVXL&tab=Specs

They're 1" smaller (which is probably fine), but the Load Index is 113 (2535#), which is just high enough according to the GAWR on the rear of 4960 /2 = 2480#. But it's lower than the 115 or 116 of the stock tires. So, I'm very hesitant.

Maybe there will be a good enough A/S tire available in a reasonable size in the next couple years that does better peak grip, but for my other vehicles I tend to keep A/S or winter tires for winter, and Summer tires for summer to have the best grip possible for the season.

MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 SUV is 20K tires, do you think they are better than stock (the price is the same as far as I can see)?

As more I look at alternatives, it seems that moving to 20" rims with tires that will have the same (almost) OD is a good option with many tires available, from $200 to $500 per tire.

As for rims, seems you can buy from EVSport ($2000 for 4) or use Dodge 2363 ($1000 for 4 new, much less for used). Seems to be a good solution that will allow you to choose from any tire (A/T, A/S, etc) , 275-60 R20

Huge thanks to @joelster for making me aware of Dodge rims.

Tire Rack does decent tests, but they haven't tested the PS4 SUV. The braking distance tests in dry and wet are my most serious safety concerns. And it relates to the measured g forces for turning. For passenger car tires, the summer tires have noticeably better grip under all warm conditions when compared to similar quality all season tires. I notice when I put my summer tires on that I just feel safer and more capable on the road from the increased grip. But....

For most people, I think going with some set of 20" rims brings in a lot of good options for tires of the right diameter and plenty of load index. That'd be the safer route to go. There are very few summer tires that are 32" + diameter. Sadness for me, but the all season tires are getting better every year.

These seem to be rated and tested pretty well and they're the correct size and load index:

And the price is really great. I think most of us can leave with the fact that EV cars are heavy, and tires can not hold for long. But paying $1000 every 2-3 years for the one you mentioned or paying $2,000 every year for stock ones make a huge difference.

Other than being less expensive, do you see any advantage to these Continentals over the Michelin Defender LTX m/s? The Michelins are #1 in consumer survey (vs #2), have a bit higher treadwear rating, and weigh 2 pounds less (so I assume more efficient).

Another one switched! I suspect the 20 brights/darks are going to be a tad bit more efficient than the normal AT’s because I’d say the face of the wheel is flatter and more aerodynamic looking. Will post back with updates once the car is done.

You’re using a 33” inch tire instead of the 34” OE size— did you have the service center recalibrate it for you?

Nope, my S came with 22’s on it so I don’t need to reprogram.

Rivian actually sold me just the wheels, no kit. I was shocked. Had my buddy pick them up from the SC last week. So I’m selling my 22’s with 240 miles on them if anyone wants them.

Nice! How much did they charge you? With TPMS?

also are they able to change the screen graphics without changing the wheel configuration?

$2222 for the 20 AT Brights. Not bad for forged 20’s. EV Sportline is selling forged 20’s for $900 a wheel. I was told they would make an exception for me. I was shocked they sold them to me not as a kit that I didn’t bother asking for the TPMS. So it was just the wheel. My shop swapped the TPMS from the 22’s.

I don’t think it has that type of functionality yet. Our Rivian app doesn’t even display the correct tires.

Just left Discount Tire in Bremerton, WA, disappointed. They won't put the AS+3 on any Rivians, R1T or R1S, because the 115 load index. 116 is lowest they'll go.

Thoughts?

Options:
-Michelin Defender through Costco (easy rotations and service)
-Find a local shop that doesn't care ( ugh)
