Just got off of my hour and 15 min (45 min scheduled) call. As stated earlier, the purpose of the call was indeed to verify address/ZIP for delivery, configuration, and delivery window.
Very little new information, but I did confirm a few things:
1. The initial vehicles will be built in batches, and the Blue/Black was in that set. Unsure what other combinations are in that set other than one other member having El Cap and black.
2. Color and wheel selection will affect production window. Guides aren't sure by how much, but it will be a consideration.
3. Proximity to a service center was a major factor. They used my billing ZIP, but it differed from my home ZIP. Changing it didn't affect my date, but they did need to verify it.
4. There are only about 16 guides.....
5. The current wheel and tire options are likely the only options that will be offered, i.e. no Dark RIT 20's...
6. Colors should have been finalized about a week ago.
7. Trade-ins facilitated by Rivian must be applied to the purchase price of the vehicle.
All very interesting information. I do wonder if they are just sorting out the color batches and then deciding order later. Any estimate date of when your vehicle might be delivered?

Prox to s service center is also very interesting. Makes me think the delays might be a LOT longer as nothing is really built yet.

Colors finalized as in how?
Maybe someone who is better at math can help start predicting future delays. Based on Rivian's targets vs actual thus far.

When they said "Deliveries Begin", what they actually ended up meaning:
  • Sometime in 2020 -> Really meant December 2020
  • December 2020 -> Really meant June 2021
  • June 2021 -> Really meant July 2021
  • July 2021 -> Really meant August/September 2021
  • Aug/Sept -> Really means ??????
I don't even want to think about applying the same delay equation to "All launch editions will be delivered by Spring 2022". Much less Canada and Europe.
And from @MisterTea posting back in December 2020:

The CS agent said, "Rivian gear is on the way: keep an eye on your email over the coming weeks, we'll be announcing our digital shop soon!"

June 1 and I'm still anxiously checking my email. I've been waiting since 12/2018, telling anyone who will listen about "my truck", so I'm all in. But I gotta agree, this is getting old!

I guess I am wondering if In the first batch means part of it along with several other colors or simply put Blue and Black are first. I would find it very odd if that was the case but then again they are managing their colors/batches/timeline and if more people have those colors it would make sense. Not sure why the first batch is still slated for August/Sept unless the whole July thing is smoke and mirror haha.
If Blue is really the first batch, then August/sept is a 2 month delay . Hard for me to believe that it is the only color that will be made in the first batch.

Yes, NE is New England, Western MA. Will have to reduce down to two vehicles, and since I’ll never sell my air cooled ‘92 911 it will be exchanging the FJ and the Rivian. I ‘think’ the Rivian will better match my needs for hauling tools, and getting me to Mtn bike and ski locations. ? ? ⛷
Knowing RJ is a Porsche fan, and that you bet on RJ over FJ, you may sneak up the food chain into a sooner delivery date. ?

Got it, yea just wondering what is actually being made in July if as you stated Aug/Sept is the first batch. Unless that is delivery and they are in fact being built in July just will take logistics/time to be transported etc.

The latest email explicitly states that deliveries begin in July.

I mean, they've said a thousand things that aren't true, but just clarifying that they did not play games with the wording on that.

Launch Edition deliveries are now planned to start in July and be completed in spring 2022.

Whats another month or two at this point right?!?! :p
Yeah, I just wish they’d give some kind of realistic/95% probable timeline. If it’s going to be another six months because of where I live then just tell me and I’ll get on with life.

I knew original timelines would be off when I first ordered the vehicle. I was fine with that. But I really really thought there would be no way I received my vehicle after September 2021 based on the influx of money and logistical assistance from the big name companies on-board. I now believe there is no way I get my vehicle in 2021..... disheartening for sure. I can hope that there the train will roll downhill and get faster but my brain is telling me otherwise. I have actually started looking at an ICE Ford. sad day

Not making excuses, just drawing from my experience

Had Covid not happened, they likely would have still pushed at the very least to spring of this year for deliveries. I honestly didn't see them completing their facility on time. The chip shortage and supplier constraints on top of that really hasn't made the already difficult process of gearing up for production any easier on them.

My personal experience of having to schedule a construction project, and meet specific deadlines set pre covid, but then attempt to achieve those without any meaningful delay or rise in costs after the onset of Covid, has been total bullsh!t to say the least. Man-lifts normally capable of taking 30 men up a tower, were reduced to 3 people maximum at a time.

Crews couldn't work closely together, one person would get sick despite preemptive checks etc and then their entire crew or the majority of it would be sent home for a 2 week quarantine as a precaution to protect the site, further delaying the project.

In short, the covid factor is something all companies will be playing catch-up from for the next couple years and Rivian burning through likely hundreds of millions during that whole shutdown/remote work phase hasn't helped. So I try to cut them slack on delivery dates, but not the vehicle information trickle. The extra validation time should have squared that portion away a while ago, but it could be due to further refinements to the vehicles and be a better product in the end.

To play devil’s advocate, a mid August customer delivery probably does begin in July.

Maybe they’re just delaying the yellow R1T’s to deliver them with the yellow R1S’s in Sep/Oct?

One could hope…. ??
Saving the best color for last to give everyone already driving one FOMO :cool:

The worst part is anyone I've ranted to about "My Truck" keeps asking now when I get it....

Know what I tell em?

Soon!

BTW… love your handle as I’m one too. In fact, about to head out for a ride. I don’t disagree that building a car company from nothing has got to be crazy hard. Add to that a pandemic and jacked up global supply chains and it’s even that much more difficult.

It just seems like everything is “soon”. I’m happy for the folks getting called today and the report out was nice. But if I’m being honest it seemed like a big nothingburger. The Guides have been in training all this time to deliver that information (or lack of). Sheesh!!!

Again, I’m getting this truck. I’ll wait and wait but good grief just shoot straight. Tell me….”it ain’t gonna be anytime soon” and I’ll be ok.
