If you rode with someone on a Jeep (Wrangler) or you owned one, you probably know there's a "Wave" among fellow Jeepers. It's just a way to recognize each other on the road. It's an unspoken agreement where those driving that truck wave at another as they pass by. Apparently this tradition has been around since the early days of the Willys production, most likely introduced by the armed forces, and is still strong today.
I found it really interesting and gave me the sense of belonging to a group with the same spirit for adventure.
Wouldn't it be nice if we start a similar gesture when two Rivian cross path?
Thoughts?
Should it be:
  • 5 fingers up, but palm still touching the steering wheel
  • index finger up, but palm still touching the steering wheel
  • other...

the Jeep wave is more "intimate"...none of the other drivers will notice
Just flash the hazards. They're cool enough as it is.

Many do it around the DC metro area.
The Jeep wave is more "discreet & personal". None of the other drivers will notice. With the hazards, the car behind might think something is happening...we already piss them off by using regenerative braking :)

2-3 flashes of the hazards, is hardly a distraction to surrounding drivers. Also many have window tint, tinted windshields and when traveling at a higher rate of speed, a wave is harder to notice than a few hazards flashes.

Form the Rivian logo with your hands

i think you gave us a great idea....actually a brilliant idea. each driver has to use only the right hand (so we can drive safely) but together we form the compass!
Does it make sense? i think that's great.

With as common as Jeeps are I find the Jeep wave annoying.

I think the one time I was passing another R1T on the road in the opposite direction he flashed his headlights, I gave a thumbs up. If I do something I would probably leave it at flashing the headlights assuming it’s daylight, reaching for the hazards isn’t a natural reaction for me.

I usually do a little wave. If something else evolved naturally, I would adopt it.

initially i found it annoying too because there are so many jeeps on the road that every five seconds you have to wave...but then it became second nature. You kinda know just by looking at the truck that's approaching you if the person is going to wave or not...so you become more selective :)
With Rivian...it's such a new and small (for now) community that it made me think it would be nice to connect by building a stronger community. that's all.

I like the idea of flashing the headlights. Waves can be hard to see.

I’m always afraid that in my haste of pressing the hazards button, I press SOS.

I would like Rivian to add the option of a double or triple press of the thumbwheel to flash the light bar green a couple of times. A "Rivian Wink" if you will.

Maybe someone can suggest it to the Rivian Software team via a tweet.
