Yes, I know I will never be able to complete an overnight charge with my 40A L2 charger
Yes, I know it's heavy,
Yes, I know impractical
So, I said after all the reviews of the truck and decided the SUV is just a joke and a giant gimmick,

Until, I saw it in person today at the Toronto International Auto show Oh Boy I WANT ONE !!!
This thins has a presence and a menacing one too and I absolutely LOVE IT !

I was able to check out the Hummer SUV at a preview event in LA a few months back. It’s definitely fun, and I think it could be a compelling option if you are looking for an off-road capable EV but don’t have convenient access to a Rivian Service Center.

I still prefer either Rivian by leaps, but they are simply not an option for some people due to SC proximity.

Competition is also a good thing — even if Hummer is never able to produce these in meaningful quantities.

As probably the only guy on here that owns a real Hummer I am not a fan of the Hummer EV. But at the Chicago auto show this weekend they had one in Black still not a fan but it looked a lot better.

I liked my Hummer EV SUT, but ultimately the Rivian R1T won out because it fits what I want in a daily driver a lot better than the Hummer did. My wife said she liked driving the Hummer better, but it's probably just because you're up off the ground way higher. I enjoy driving the R1T more than the Hummer, so it had to go. I bought the ORV stickers to put on the Hummer, but the R1T ended up coming in between the time I ordered the stickers for the Hummer and the time the stickers came in. Never ended up putting them on either vehicle last year since I just wasn't ready to go to the places where they'd be required last year. Planning to change that this year.

The one thing I do miss is the four-wheel steering. Absolutely a game changer for tight parking lots and makes the bigger vehicle easier to maneuver in tight parking lots. I did end up reserving the Hummer SUV 2x after we sold the truck. My wife doesn't need the power and the WTF mode is really just a gimmick, but I'm still not sure if we'll end up keeping the SUV long term over some of the other EV options that we'll likely already have in the driveway before we get the Hummer SUV in 2025. She's happy driving the Polestar 2 for now.

On one of our last pre-COVID European trips (France) they screwed up my rental and (after a bit of complaining) they substituted a Mercedes SUV for my smaller reserved vehicle. Joke was on me when I had some difficulty navigating some of the streets in older neighborhoods. The Mercedes was by far the largest car in some of the places we visited and it seems like it would easily fit inside the Hummer. There is such a thing as too big.

Well, maybe almost the only one. To be fair the GM hummers have always been pretty different than the AM General hummers/humvees. It might be a fairer comparison to ask if you would buy a production version of something like JerryRigEverything's electric hummer:



I thought the design of the humvee/hummer was pretty interesting 25+ years ago and I think nowadays that the rivian design is pretty interesting. I don't feel the same way about the hummer ev.

The Hummer EV is way cool, but alas, pretty darn big for the Publix parking lot. We have a 3/4 ton Duramax and that's too big. I have to park out by the road, but that's OK as I can use the exercise. Years ago, I had two 3/4 ton Suburbans with Quadrasteer. That was the greatest feature ever on a long vehicle. Those Suburbans had the turning radius of a Honda Civic. The four wheel steering will also be available on the Silverado EV.

to be fair, it’s still FAR more efficient than any ICE vehicle that it can be compared to. 53 mpge isn’t exactly bad.

Now, only if it fit in parking spots / garages….

I don’t get it. It has the same appeal to me as the Cybertruck, and I don’t mean that as a compliment.

The R1T was already slightly larger than I wanted in a vehicle.

And my memories of using real HMMWV don’t make me want it more. Those things are piles of crap that do little more than look good in pictures.
