Hi. We are scheduled to pick up our R1S on Saturday. I have a question about our trade-in (I've sent an email to my guide, but as usual she has proven very slow to respond). When I submitted the trade-in info a month ago, I got what I thought was a very fair offer (i.e., more than I thought I'd get!), with a mileage limit of 1,000 miles. I knew then that the 1,000 limit would be tough, as we were planning a nice long driving vacation over Labor Day. That has proven to be the case, and I suspect when we turn in the old car on Saturday that we will be at 1,800 or 1,900 miles. I'm trying to determine how that will impact the transaction, which is what I asked my guide. Have any of you run into this situation before? What happened? Is there anyone else I should contact at Rivian? Thanks!

Haven't run into this per se but this basically means they will need to give you a new quote on your trade. As far as how much more/less ut will be is hard to say.
Thanks. I realize that, so ultimately I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if there is a way to make this adjustment in advance, so I can be prepared with an adjusted amount on the cashier's check I plan to give Rivian on Saturday. I can't make the adjustment through the 8-step process, as my trade-in is marked "complete".

If you signed an agreement for 1000 miles and show up with nearly double that... you have to assume it's going to impact things.

It might have been wise to rent a vehicle for the trip and let your trade-in sit that one out. I don't think it will be a "significant" issue - they should be able to re-quote you, update the paperwork, and go - but I'd expect their offer to get lower and you need to account for that in your other financing planning

I thought it was 3,000 miles? I'm looking through my agreement, which states under section 14:

"You represent, warrant, and covenant that the information provided to Rivian is true, complete, and accurate and there will be no material changes in that information prior to transfer of possession of Your Trade-In to Rivian. Rivian considers 3,000 or more miles as material."

Interesting! Thanks for pointing that out. My agreement has that exact same 3,000 mile figure. I could have sworn when I submitted the trade-in info, though, that they said my quote was good for 1,000 miles. I can't find that anywhere.

I just called my guide, as we've put about 1000 miles since accepting Rivian's trade-in. They confirmed that 3,000 miles is the max, but they like to see no more than 1,000 since the quote. He asked that I not take any long road trips with the vehicle and that we will not be impacted with the trade since our agreement has already been signed.

Unfortunately this is one of the challenges with the direct sales model. Especially problematic when there is a long wait between reserving and delivery. Its still sooo much better than the dealership model IMO.

I would contact your guide and/or the person coordinating your delivery. You should be safe with 3,000 miles if that's what the agreement says.

Thanks. I agree; I'm going with the 3,000 miles stated in the contract for now. Unfortunately, my guide hasn't responded to either an email and a text.

Ah yes, I just heard from my guide, and she said that my odometer reading won't be a problem at all. So 3,000 is the official number, even though they originally asked me to keep mileage under 1,000.

3000 mile trade in limit is very generous of Rivian.

I did my trade in 1 year ago, They didn't even look at my trade in, they just took the keys, I think the service center doesn't know / nor care about that part of the process. (this is 1 year ago so things may have changed)

I was not over the 1000 miles though, but the truck was dirty as hell lol

That's good. I went past the 3,000, unfortunately, and they cut the trade-in price. I was a bit irritated, but it was fair.
