I mean I laughed, but I agree - I feel like the criteria needs to change a bit.Per a day?
I’ve only had my Rivian for a day, but my sister and brother in-law came over yesterday and that was my first and only launch so far. They’ve both owned a few SRT type Dodge vehicles with lots of power, and a TRX Ram, but the acceleration of the R1S had them both giggling and my bro in-law said it was like being hit in the stomach LOL.I mean I laughed, but I agree - I feel like the criteria needs to change a bit.
Bottom line for me - daily driving, not a thing I can do often at all (Chicago streets) aside from an occasional highway on-ramp or a highway blast from 60-100.
But anytime there's a new person, first time in an EV, first time in a Rivian, whatever, we go find somewhere - empty industrial park on a weekend, whatever - and we go pull a few launches. So it's not any specific regular frequency, but it's pretty much 100% in those conditions. But outside of that I have absolutely NO desire to gap <insert sports car here> at a stoplight when I'm driving normally. Honestly KNOWING I could, easily, makes me LESS inclined to "prove" it if that makes sense. It's more of "confidence is quiet, insecurity is loud" - there's very few cars on the road I feel any need to "prove" anything to. It's more of a fun "so is it fast?" thing with a person who has never felt instant torque before. It's a riot to watch the chain of emotions from surprise, to fear, to glee, to giddy laughter, to OMG DO THAT AGAIN!"
I feel like launching, regularly, on surface streets with other people around in a 7000lb death rocket is pretty damn irresponsible. I use the power to pass on the expressway, otherwise I just don't see any need in daily driving.
Yeah a lot of that comes down to where you live and the roads in that area. For me I find plenty of opportunities on a large lane state highway that's 4-6 lanes and you can see for a couple miles ahead. Those are pretty safe opportunities to let her rip, but I always stop around that 60MPH mark. The Rivian is super friendly and hooks up really safely in dry conditions so as long you're going in a straight line.I mean I laughed, but I agree - I feel like the criteria needs to change a bit.
