True or not, I think the price is going to be a bit higher than most expect (certainly you can forget the $39k model) and I think the CT will go a similar path to the Lightening; early buyers will flip for profit (Ford dealer mark ups), then they'll fast run out of wealthy fans and the blind.

Using a feature that doesn’t exist as enticement to buy a vehicle that barely exists does sound like one of his moves :giggle:
Haven't used FSD yet, had Navigate on Autopilot trial on a Model 3 in 2020. It worked very well on some road trips when we didn't fly, but it was worse on a newer model that we owned. FSD is cool cutting edge tech, shouldn't be named that, and should only cost $3-4k.

Hate that Tesla stripped the cars of USS and radar.

As it comes back to Rivian - if they ever removed USS, that would be a deal breaker.

I'm in the camp true FSD is 15-20 years away.

I cringe when people ask Rivian/RJ about FSD as though it's a feature some other company has Rivian is missing out on.

I'd rather they focus on getting the vehicles right and can worry about FSD in 10 years when it might be more relevant.

The Count's preference order (ranked)

1) spend 100k on a decked-out R1T
2) spend 100k on a 2024 Lightning Pt+
3) drop 100k into a pit and set it on fire
4) spend 100k on a dumpster with a Tesla emblem A/K/A cyberTruCk

That $99,000 "starting price" is the price for the top motor/trim level. The top motor/trim for the R1T "starts at" $94,000. Paying 6% more to get a vehicle from an established brand with way better software and charging infrastructure that doesn't suck is pretty dang reasonable.

If the specs end up similar to Rivan's Dual Motor Performance Max pack and I didn't mind the appearance, there is no chance the price difference would push me toward Rivian.

I personally don't like the way the cybertruck looks, but the reservation count seems to imply that I may be in the minority on that.
Do you really think this version of the CT will get over 400 miles of range to be equivalent to the R1T Dual Max? I think not. As has been said here, I think that is the "350 mile" pack, which means real world of a little under 300 based on Tesla's history.

100k for a fridge on wheels? No thanks.

I also wonder how that thing will pass any sort of safety testing, the edges look very sharp and dangerous for collisions or pedestrians.

I'm sure Tesla will find a way to "quote" that it has a higher range than Rivian .. now will it in the real world ... doubtful.

A few payments to the right people and anything can pass.

The same way that Tesla (apparently) received the EPA ratings they did, you mean? :D

They will need a 150kwh plus battery to get to 350 miles of "range," and I don't think the $98k price point reflects a Tri-Motor with a battery pack that large.

If price is real then I understand Elon's comment about shooting themselves in the foot. Look is polarizing and CT can only sell based on $/specs. A $100k Plaid CT will have a limited audience, especially if range is far from initial specs.

Yea .. Many people talk about their backlog .. I'm going to just guess, the VAST majority of people that are still left considering it are wanting one on the lower end (ie 40k they teased). Between the delays and current market climate/interest rates, I'm guessing more and more will be dropping out.

There are many that have multiple reservations. Saw one post who had 12 rez and will only get one. Assuming others did the same that million rezs becomes something the company should be worried about

I've got a handful ... only for potential resale. Originally was thinking about keeping one because I ruled out the Rivian due to bed size. Then the Rivian ended up you know .. exisiting .. and realized the bed size would be fine for my uses and I liked everything else about the Rivian better. Also, with me having a Tesla, I realized how uncomfortable having someone like Elon in control of my car's software made me. I wrote off the possibility of buying another Tesla, but realized I could probably make some money flipping my preorders, so I left those.

I'm guessing there are a lot with similar cases

On a related note, if Rivian has arrived and you want your Tesla reservation $100 back, any ideas?

The same thing happened to the Lightning. The majority wanted a $40K Pro, and when that vanished so did most of the buyers.
