I just wanted to know if this was normal behavior or if I'm doing something wrong. I have Amazon music and created a playlist. On my RIT I get in and ask Alexa to play music from my playlist and everything works like expected.

If I leave the car not long enough for it to go to sleep when I get in the music resumes where it left off.

However, if the car goes to sleep and I come back, the music does not resume and I have to ask Alexa to resume it which is fine. But when it resumes, it starts the playlist from the very beginning which is annoying.

Is this normal behavior? Thanks.

'Normal' as it happens to me as well. Hopefully this is not intentional, however.

It's kind of a mess, but yeah. The other issue I've been having is that if I try to shuffle a playlist, I always get some weird subset of songs over and over, there are songs in a playlist that I've never heard. And for a while I got the first song in the list every time I asked it to shuffle.

I thought this would have improved when they added "Alexa Integration" into the music app, but all that does is just show what's playing -- it's totally useless. Why they don't have a full Amazon Music app is beyond me.

Mine sometimes resumes where I left off. I believe there's a good chance it might restart if someone else used an amazon device for music between the time I stopped and restarted on the days that it resets. Haven't done enough to fully investigate that yet.

Good to know I'm not doing anything wrong. I was trying to decide which music streaming service to use. Had a trial of Tidal and it worked pretty well. Looks like Tidal it is. Thanks.

Yep! Songs Restart from beginning after pause for a while (not sure how long but minutes). Also the Shuffle replays the same shuffle and some songs never make it to the early queue

TLDR: stations > shuffling playlists

This isn't going to be what everyone is going to want to do but here is what works for me.

I've got a playlist of something like 2500 songs that, over time, I've moved from Pandora to Spotify and finally to both Tidal and Amazon (for now I keep both services for reasons I won't get into here).

I'm primarily using Amazon Music both in the Rivian and on my home stereo system. With the Rivian, I was having problems with shuffle play as others have noted. What does seem to work very well for me is to ask Alexa to "Play my Music". This plays a music station that seems to be based on my playlists and liked songs. It's still not clear to me if this is playing Amazon's "My Soundtrack Station" or something else (anyone here happen to know?). Regardless, what I get is a bit like listening to a commercial free radio station that randomly plays all my favorite music spanning multiple diverse genres of music which is generally exactly what I want when driving (I despise managing playlists). The command "Play my Music" provides a far greater mix of songs without the looping problem experienced when telling Alexa to shuffle play a playlist. It's also a much shorter and less convoluted verbal command that Alexa always understands. With playlists, Alexa would frequently misunderstand my verbal command mistaking the playlist name for some other artist, album, etc that happened to contain one or more of the same words in the name. I haven't had any more arguments with Alexa since I started asking her to "Play my Music".

As others have also noted, Amazon Music will pick up where it left off if when the vehicle is parked for short periods of time. When parked for longer periods it forgets where it left off and the station resets. But, with stations, you actually get new songs and not the same loop of 6 songs you heard on your last drive. As with other Alexa devices, you can also resume playback across devices within a short window of time ("Alexa, resume Amazon Music"). So, for example, if I'm listening in the Rivian and then go inside my house, I can resume playback on my home stereo system and it will pick up where I left off in the Rivian. The same works in reverse allowing you to transfer playback from home to Rivian (or between any 2 Alexa devices).

This was one of the reasons I stopped using Amazon music. I always shuffle play and with Amazon music it would play the same songs in the same order. But this was like 5-6 years ago, would have thought they addressed it.

Same thing happens to me. Very annoying. Ended up having to use Spotify, which works great.
