Has anyone successfully changed their R1S configuration after lock in?

We locked in about a month ago in early October and recently realized that we'd rather have the 20" AT wheels that we can swap the tires with non OEM tires in the future. Our guide is out of office till early December so we reached out to the support team and they are saying we cannot change our configuration anymore without canceling our order, losing our deposit, and having to place a brand new order.

If you find something in the shop you can grab that which effectively changes your config.

Surprised they did not provide a temporary guide will the assigned one is not around. Probably really depends on how long after configuring the vehicle is scheduled for production.

As @edman007 said, if you have access to the shop keep an eye out there for the config you want and grab that.

I would think if you tried to escalate to a CS manager since you do not have a guide and your current configuration is a common one they would accommodate you.

Spoke to CS today and she said they actually removed our shop access after configuring. CS said that it was a policy change that they made due to "issues with manufacturing" with people changing their configurations post lock in.

Quite frustrated with the experience at this point as the wheels we want to switch to are more expensive and probably don't affect the VIN number? We had the CS escalate to their "OOO Guide Team" in the hopes that they can help us get it switched since we still don't have an estimate and all the verbiage on our configuration page suggests we should be able to change our configuration and that it just might affect our delivery date (which we are not worried about).

A temporary guide is actually a great idea, I might suggest that to them when they reach out because it was pretty surprising/impersonal to find out our guide is OOO from an auto text response when we reached out.

Interesting, is the link to the shop removed for you or does it just show no inventory available?

I guess I have a different definition of “lock in” than others. I understand the frustration but Rivian can’t run an operation where locking orders has no meaning and people can change their orders at any point. You shouldn’t have locked in with wheels/ tires you didn’t actually want.

The link is still there but she says it shows no inventory for us because we've locked in, a change in their previous process.

I didn't have any reason to believe that the default tires on the vehicle were completely custom and the only option available or I certainly would not have went with the default. It seems shady at best for them to not be forthcoming. I'm not used to the idea that you're totally locked into a poor performing tire when purchasing the default wheel size. I would have more easily believe that one of the alternate wheel sizes required custom tires.

So that explains why those of us that were invited to configure in October have been unable to see any inventory in the shop. That would have been nice to know beforehand...

And yet, having configured in October, I keep getting emails from Rivian encouraging me to make a purchase through the R1 shop. It is kind of annoying.

Yes those emails are awful and just shows the inconsistency with their verbiage and process changes.?

There are a bunch of threads here about the 21 inch tires and there is nothing wrong with them. Rivian is very clear they are not an off road tire and they do not have the snow rating the 20s have. They are a perfectly adequate all season tire designed to maximize range. Otherwise you could have just done a search online for replacement tires in that size and found there aren't any available yet. I did that before I even placed my original order. It took all of 5 minutes.

Either way, "lock order" indicates it is a point of no return and you should not proceed without being certain your order is what you want/ need. If you did that without doing all your research, that is not Rivian's mistake. Nor is it "shady".

Yes, I just received another one this morning. I suspect this policy change is to lock in more folks into dual motor configurations where they lose less money and leave the Quads for legacy order fulfillment.

? Good for you.

And I'm not looking for an AT tire, I'm looking for something that will last more than 15k miles and has a tread warranty.? Guess that's my bad for assuming Rivian wouldn't default to a tire that has neither of those qualities.
