Does anyone know what this strap is for? There is a molded rectangular platform below it so I think Rivian was planning to store something there vertically but maybe they abandoned whatever they were planning. ?‍♂

Did anyone ever see a reference to something going there?

It's there to make sure your prisoners cannot escape.

Well… you’ll have to come up with your own solution for keeping your prisoners locked down. ??‍♂

Mine is 7xxx from April. Do you have the flat rectangle molded into the liner?

I have the strap in mine (1663), looks like a good place for the bottle Jack I picked up, have not tried yet, waiting for the spare to be installed later this week.

I tried putting my (Sprinter) bottle jack there and the flat part at the bottom is too small for the base of the jack, the jack is too tall to fit with the upper organizer tray in place, and the Velcro feels a little flimsy because it passes behind the well liner but it doesn’t seem to be attached to the body. Hopefully your jack will fit better than mine!

I’m sure I’ll find a use for it, even if for the bottle jack when I have my full size spare standing up in the well. I’m just curious about what Rivian was planning for it originally.

Mine has the strap (2022 build). I’ll ask the SC when I’m there to have my compact spare installed, but I doubt I’ll get any meaningful info.

My guess is to secure a bottle jack or some other abandoned toolkit idea.

Had my spare installed today. The bottom liner is 2 pieces, part of the install is to replace the forward portion with a cutout and install a bracket for the retention bolt. Here are a couple of pictures as well as a picture of the back of that strap.

Anyone interested, they honored the original price, actually a bit lower, total after taxes was 464.14. They do not replace any door stickers.

Edit: couple more pictures, the Velcro strap certainly will not hold a bottle Jack, the tech was new, had no idea what the strap was for. Good news is with a couple of small rolled up towels my 4 ton bottle jack sits very nicely in that corner.

My 2023 Launch Edition R1S has the same strap and I have no idea what it's supposed to be for. My VIN is 6xxx and build date is March 6, 2023
