Hey guys,

I just received my configuration confirmation email but mg wife and I are having a hard time deciding whether or not to pull the trigger without even sitting in or test driving the vehicle. Is anyone in the central Palm Beach/Boynton Beach FL area willing to meet up for a quick tour/drive so we can decide on this? My wife and I have a little one at home so hard to get down to Miami for the ride program they have. Thanks guys!!!

Turo! I bet you’ve got options nearby. Worth renting one for a day and putting some miles in to see what you really think.

Isn't it like an hour to the Miami service center? If that's too far for a test drive what are you going to do if your vehicle needs service and they tell you to drive it down there? If its too difficult to get to the service center for a test drive think about how service is going to fit into your schedule.

Have you checked/posted on the Florida Rivian Club Page? They might have an event coming up that's more conveniently located for you and/or there might be someone there willing to hand their R1 over to another Florida Man/Woman... I don't see how anyone would have an issue with that! /s

Pull the trigger. You have 1k/1 week for a refund. Cheers.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the recommendations. Our schedules are just really busy these days with the little one and Miami is about an hour and a half away. Hopefully they will open a Palm Beach service center soon. I’ll definitely check the local thread for a nearby meet.

I third the Turo idea. I also want to reiterate the service aspect. Even if you like the car, service is a bit of a hassle right now. Service can take months to get an appointment unless your truck is completely out of service.

Its an awesome car but at this early stage it requires patience and putting up with a bit of inconvenience.

If the nearest service center is too far away, I wouldn't pull the trigger yet. I've had my R1T for over a year and have had to take it in for service 4 times. It's usually a 50 minute drive there and 1.5 hour drive back.

You can rerun it if you don’t like it.
Mobile service can handle many minor things and can come to you.

I bought mine sight unseen ~15 months ago. It’s been mostly trouble free. It’s been to the service center 3-4 times which involves a ferry boat and 1.5 hours of my time each way.

Totally worth it.

You should test drive it first. They are very high off the ground so that there is a lot of movement which can add to motion sickness. They are not very smooth in town. I found the R1S very nice on the road. The acceleration can also cause motion sickness if you are prone to that. It is crazy fast but can be driven smoother and more mellow than an ICE. They are half as efficient as other EV's.

The sound system is very good. I have a special feeling just being with my R1S. The lane keep feels very solid. It feels very good cruising on the freeway with cruise control. It is big and awkward around town. It is super safe. I like the seats. They are firm. The cockpit is much nicer than a Tesla.

It is not quiet. That may not bother you. The X is smoother and quieter. I like the looks of the R1S.

I see it as my own personal super car, second to none.

We live in DC. Our first foray into EVs was a 2018 pacifica plug-in hybrid. But driving in electric mode got us hooked. Sold it and picked up our R1S after a 2yr wait, w/o opportunity for a test drive ahead of time.

The R1S has less cargo space, it is taller, and feels wider, maybe a little difficult to maneuver around town (if you're not used to it), does not self park, or have android auto, or built in screens on the head rests, like the PacHy, and it cost us more than double, what the PacHy cost. Not to mention, we have a roof leak above the C-pillar, and the appt is a few weeks away, at a service center 1 hr from here.

That being said, we've put about 1500 miles on the R1S, and love it! Love the look, and the smart design inside and out. We've been on our first 4-wheeling trip ever, seeing the color changing leaves in the Shenandoah valley, like we've never experienced before. We drove on the beaches of Assateague Island National Seashore for the first time. We traveled up to NY and NJ on holiday weekends, and plan to do a few trips this winter to Snowshoe, WV for skiing. The seats are more comfortable, the handling (on & off road) is excellent. By the nature of one-pedal driving (once you get used to it) makes our kids, and little nieces, less prone to getting motion sickness than our previous vehicles. Massive frunk holds a lot of our camping gear. Looking forward to some overland camping in the distant future. While charging on a road trip may be challenging at times, we do most of our charging at home, for about 12cents/kWh (not including solar). And in terms of customer service interactions, I've had a better experience w/ Rivian CS than any other manufacturer.

I could go on and on. I think ultimately, it depends on why you want to get it, whether it will still meet your family's needs, and whether it's worth it. There may be some sacrifices, but joy/happiness will not be one of them.

Good luck.
And sorry about the long read.

Nice photos to go with your fall excursions. We have the same build: Limestone, 20” darks, crossbars. That OC interior really stands out.
