Cybertruck can power your home ?

I saw plenty of posts about the pricing, but found this article interesting.

I have a powerwall already, and it seems the cybertruck can plug into that to power the house. The powerwall is great, but only last a few hours if you're using a lot of electricity. I'd imagine the cybertruck would keep the lights on for a lot longer. Hopefully this news will push Rivian / others to do similar. Would love to use that big battery in a power cut.

V2G is a useful feature. Elon was publicly against it for a long time but I think Tesla's team talked him into it.

Side note, it does feel like they went and looked at Rivian and the F-150L and tried to take some features from both.

All in all, it wouldn't hurt to have a backup power generator sitting in your garage that can keep you warm and your groceries fresh for a few days without power.

I need to see someone actually use the CT for VtoH. There is no detail around the mentioned wall connector, I’ve never seen a VtoH setup that does not require a bidirectional charger and I do not know anyone currently making one with a NACS connector.

I think like many other players they are close to getting this functionality but to this point Ford is the only player besides some Chademo vehicles that have actually shown it in action.

V2H is just so expensive to setup at your home that I find it not really worth it. I’ve had a few power outages since I got my R1T (longest being ~12 hours) and an extension cord from the bed to the house was enough to power my fridge, my gas heater, a couple lamps, and my wifi. While I wouldn’t want to live like that for days, it wasn’t bad enough that I’d run out and have the hardware installed at my house to support V2H. What I’d prefer is a 240v in the bed and bump those 120v to 20amps.

I agree if just setting it up for backup it is expensive and unless in an area where the weather is bad and a lot of sustained outages would be hard to justify.

I already have solar and a Powerwall setup. I’m hoping that once the bidirectional chargers come out that tying into that existing infrastructure will be pretty cheap. Sounds like it might be based on the Tesla announcement just not enough details to fully understand the actual requirements.

I must have missed where this has actually been demonstrated by Tesla. They have some short video that shows the app working but that stuff is incredibly easy to fake.

Agree. A dino fuel generator can power the critical circuits for days, even weeks if necessary, depending on the exact situation and your strategy.

When I built my house I installed a whole house transfer switch but never installed the whole house generator. For the limited outages three or four times a year, it seemed excessive, and my wife and I don't mind "roughing it" lol for a few days with limited power if necessary. Our outages are usually due to downed power lines in our rural area, so 12 - 36 hours is typical for a repair. My 7500 watt gas genny can run for a day on 5 gallons of gas, and I don't run it 24 hours unless I need it for the electric power to our gas fireplace in the bedroom. Our woodstove keeps the main part of the house toasty warm. Longest time we were out of power was two days. I keep 20 gallons of gas on hand for all my farm equipment anyhow, so for me powerwall, etc. doesn't make financial sense.

Yes, both Lightning and CT have excellent V2L options. Rivian seems to plan to offer only an expensive option.

Tesla is much better positioned to offer V2H through the 400v connection by using the powerwall gateway.
