Ride menu max charge limit override

In the ride menu settings there is a screen that says "max charge limit override" does anyone know what this does?

Presumably it allows the battery to charge beyond the allowed user capacity, which is lower than the battery's technical true capacity. Derating the battery by some margin helps to extend the lifetime of the battery by protecting consumers from themselves, but may also serve to optimize some of the fast charging curve, etc. I assume there is some diagnostic usefulness in charging the battery to a true 100% SoC, thus the override in the service menu.

But maybe somebody smarter than me will chime in with a more precise answer.

Based off on that and the description text below / it can set the max charge level of the battery - so could set it to lower than 100% conceivably.

Ideally we can get input from someone that has played with it and knows what it does

I am not 100% on this but I believe that will override the UI charging limit. For example, if you wanted to prevent it from charging above 90% you could set that there and despite what is selected in the charge menu it will not charge above 90%. Only a guess on my part based on how it's worded. I'm not brave enough to try it out of fear that it may affect my battery warranty.

Wouldn't that be diabolical if Rivian had all it's cars capped at 95% and as the user, your battery degredation would be significantly reduced because you could never charge to true 100%?

This is in the Rivian Service menu, which you need a secret PIN to access (that you can find posted online from time to time, as it changes), and it says:

This procedure will set the maximum charging limit on this vehicle.

Anyone have a Rivian service manual, or have asked a trained technician what this means?
