Out of curiosity, have you checked with A Better Route Planner to see if others have that covered for now? I'm with you, I'd prefer to have the RAN cover everywhere, eventually, but ABRP will allow you to enter either Rvian, by battery size, and find the most convenient stations along your route.
I did find other charging stations already in existence in eastern OK and in Amarillo, so isn't a show-stopper. And, plan B for those I-40 trips might just be my wife's ICE vehicle.

AJ,

Thank you. You saved me by providing a much better visual to accompany that annoying, screeching, persistent earworm.

For those who don't get AJ's reference, it's at the 1:19 mark of the attached trailer. it always blows me away when a classic like Airplane fails to sweep the Oscars. I seem to remember the same sense of shock and dismay when Caddy Shack, Animal House and Pulp Fiction were largely, if not entirely ignored.

Ah ah ah ah...I mean hahahaha.
All I hear is "Ow!, ow!, ow!, ow!, killing my ears, killin' my ears!" ?

Please make it stop! Luckily, I have an audio can of Raid that kills BeeGees (and all other earworms):

You are, of course, most welcome. Just don't call me Shirley!
One of my favorite scenes is when Julie's character enjoys a cigarette with Otto Pilot after she saves all those lives through an act that can best be described as "Inflatio".

To get back the charging aspect of Rivians, the original picture for this thread, from well over a year ago, reminds me of the improvements these vehicles have gone through over the months and years. Not only has the charging port moved to the left hand side of the vehicles, but the rotating mechanism for opening it has changed dramatically from the version shown here. RJ showed me how robust the new one is. So many people have opined online that it appears flimsy, but it is quite sturdy.

It's not a big deal, it's just that the opening picture looks very dated after seeing the real thing.

Just another enjoyable flashback to an earlier time. Probably a healthier one than that created by the Iron Butterfly video...

One problem with the charging door migrating from right front to left front. If Tesla really does open the Super Chargers to other manufacturers, unless they put in longer charge cables, they are useless for Rivian. When they were on the right front, you could pull straight in and the cable would have reached. Now on the left side will not work, you would have to pull into the adjacent stall and block that from other users to make the existing cable reach.

Not an issue today but just an observation....

We will have to have an adaptor anyway no reason that couldn't be a 4' cord adaptor

The front left is probably the most common charge port location.
This is going to be a Tesla issue (along with fitting the required displays/readouts and credit card readers).

Good to know. Having never been to a Super Charger, I'd never had known that. We'll have to find some sort of work-around, if the SC network is ever going to be accessible to us. I'm guessing that if they want to participate in the upcoming federal incentives, they'll have to add the cables needed to work for different layouts.

It's only 3:30, and I've already learned more today here than I did in several full weeks back in high school. And honestly, that's not of the school's doing. Senior year was the best three years of my life! ?

I wonder if cooling issues will make extensions possible? As I stated a minute ago, I'd think any federal $ will require plugs and cords that will need to work for all. ?

Nah. Just pick a stall where the one to your left isn’t being used, drive in nose first, and plug in.

…is what I’d do if I had to visit a supercharger, despite being bent on not giving Elon a goddamn dime.

I must say that I don’t really care anymore if Rivian builds it’s own network now that Tesla’s is supposed to open up.

I’m already planning on buying an adapter without even seeing the cost. How much would you be willing to pay for one. I honestly would pay $500 without hesitation.

I agree with this. I will carry just about every reasonable adapter on road trips. It will give me peace of mind and If I use any of them once it will have been worth the money.
