Anyone tried Team 1EV's Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Smart Dash Screen? Looks like easy install.

It's installed in my truck as we speak. Another enterprising individual on the forums (as others mentioned, do a search), did the cable management better than EV Sportline recommended, by running it along the dash, then down the side of the dash and under--cleaner for sure.

Do they sell the mounting plate separately?

it comes with it. There are multiple posts on this, with install instructions, cable hiding instructions, etc. Very simple, and a nice option to have car play.

I got my EV1 display yesterday. I have been fluffing around with a hinge-based mounting under the HVAC while using a cheapo-Amazon version of the same screen.

So here's the deal: don't screw around with cheapo Amazon versions. Get the 1EV version. The integration via BT actually works properly, compared to the poopfest on my FM-modulated Amazon 'dummy'.

Anyway, I'm still figuring out the mounting issues for something below the HVAC. I think, ultimately, it might wind up in the 'recommended' 1EV location above the center display. When it's 'low', there's just too much 'eye travel' trying to operate the various functions. I have run with my cheapo version for about a week in the 'low' mounting location. It just doesn't feel right.

Blah blah blah. Get the 1EV. It works way way better.

The mounting plate has holes for attaching the included screen. Sure, you could drill holes if you wanted to use a different screen. As of now, the mounting bracket is not sold separately. Try contacting them directly about your particular need for mounting a different device on their bracket or a variation of their bracket.

I have this installed in my truck and also did the cleaner version(hidden wires) of the install as others have mentioned here that was provided by another member. Couldn't be happier with it. Works so easily. And the clean looking install makes the whole thing look factory installed. Love mine.

Hi @JackRussellRacing, could you share the hinges that you settled on for mounting under the HVAC, even if they are "best of a bad set of options"?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GX8LQCX/

For that to work, I did drill into the lower HVAC console and drilled small holes into the Android thing. The mounting worked fine, but after a few weeks, I relocated it above the central display using the 1EV bracket.

Mounting the display below the HVAC was significantly more discrete and aesthetically pleasing -- but it simply was not as usable (for me) in terms of arm-reach and visibility.

I tried it and it wasn't for me. The bracket is great and the carplay aspects work fine, and the screen is OK, but the dealbreakers for me were:
  1. Color temperature doesn't match the main display so it always looks tacked on
  2. No ambient light sensor for variable brightness, so the only way to do auto light/dark mode for the display is on a fixed timer, which means you will often have the car displays in one mode while the CarPlay display is in the other (e.g., glaringly white at night) until you manually fix it. You can adjust it manually, but that's a hassle.
  3. I found most of the functions are redundant with things the Rivian does serviceably well on the first party displays. Having two maps and two sets of album art is just a lot.
  4. The worst one: The CarPlay display will wake itself up all the damn time, including when the car is empty and locked. Even with tinted side windows you can see the display shining from inside the car when everything else is dark. It's a giant "break my windows and steal my shit" invitation. You can work around this by adding an inline switch and unplugging it, but that's a hassle.
My one line review is "more trouble than it's worth."

You should be directing your displeasure directly at Rivian engineering! Why is their vehicle waking up all the time while it should be asleep?

I have a electric rear view mirror/dash cam in our BMW i3.
It's powered via the cig lighter outlet and once the vehicle is shut down for the night... that device never powers on even on time no matter how many hours or even days the i3 sits unused... because the i3 doesn't constantly wake itself up multiple times/day.
Bonus... the i3 can sit for days/weeks at a time and lose 0 miles range.
