Hello All!

So happy to say I picked up an R1T yesterday! I've been waiting a very long time, actually had a reservation back in Jan 2021 (if I remember right), but canceled due to needing a vehicle sooner (purchased a Mach E).

I found a deal on launch edition R1T I couldn't pass up, and we're currently on 1200 mile road trip home. The truck is amazing!

I do have a couple questions:
The one downside is the truck does have high miles, 55k. It's in great condition, there almost no battery degradation judging by the range on the guess of meter, even the powered tonneau cover still works. That being said, it's really close to end of comprehensive warranty. All the third party extended warranties I've used before are a joke, and almost certainly won't pay anything out. Are there any out there that actually provide good service? Do you think it's worth it?

Any other advice for a new owner?

TIA!

There have been a couple threads about extended warranties here, although I don’t have any experience with this company myself. IMO it does seem to be better than the warranties most of us see on TV (Car Shield, etc). One of these threads is posted by the company, Fidelity, who became a site sponsor.

Also, congrats and welcome to the family!

Thank @COdogman, some good reading material for my next charging stop.

I just say the note about PPF being removed from your order. Did you end getting PPF done by a third party?

I have not had that done yet. I may get the front end done at some point, but so far the paint looks to be holding up well even with most of my miles being on the highway. If I add some PPF I will probably go with one of the less expensive types. It’s not something I stress about too much.

Be safe on your inaugural road trip home!

Most ”insurance” companies/contracts have the same basic axiom: once they sign you up, they do everything possible to not abide by the contract. Doesn’t matter the type…medical, car, home etc. I had an RV contract for Rv repairs that was a joke and I canceled as they did exactly what all do: find a loophole to not pay. I advise to self insure once the warranties go out. I am only a 3 month newbie but long time user of warranties. Welcome to a great vehicle!

Thanks Captain JB,

That's kind of the way I'm leaning as well.

I think I'm in a bit of a unique situation as a new owner but also likely one of the higher mileage Rivians out there.

Best wished with your R1T. We have had Opal (our R1T) for almost a year now and love her to death. We fight over who gets to drive her. We are also glad to hear that yours has 55K miles on her and she is still doing well.

Congratulations on the new to you truck!

Yeah service contracts usually aren't worth it. If you already have 55k on the truck they will also want to charge you a huge amount most likely. Big stuff like motors and battery covered for 8y/175k mi on quad motor.

In the ride menu you can see the SOH (state of health) of the battery. I'm pretty sure it's still well above 90%.. also, free service like recurrent will track your battery health and show you how it compares with other similar vehicles.

I have tons of stuff on my website like accessories, detailing supplies, videos, etc. I am a huge fan of Rivian and EVs in general.
