Make sense. Among improvements I hear... something to do with climate control performance for rear row(s).

No more quad motor R1S when I check the shop. Will they be adding more inventory to the shop in the coming days/weeks/months?

I should have locked in one of the available configs 2 hours ago when I first checked.

Why does everyone keep talking about Sept 30. What happens on Sept 30?

That’s the final date to use the voucher before it expires

I talked at length with the call centre. I am still awaiting my launch edition (2019 deposit) and after a firm delivery date of March I am told this is no longer a viable option and my configuration has now disappeared along with the original pricing.
Is anyone else in this same position? I feel as though it’s another way of not honouring the original launch edition price.

IMO it’s too early for a refresh. I hope this is retooling to prepare for the R2 while supply is outweighing demand in the R1 space. There’s no reason to continue with custom orders when there is shop inventory available
Just like car dealers give better discounts on vehicles that are on the lot vs custom ordered. It's a smart move by Rivian. It helps them move inventory by shifting the discount to shop vehicles only.

I agree with the speculation that there will be some level of refresh. Here's my completely uninformed speculation:

1. They will bifurcate the R1 platform into high-priced versions and a low priced version. Prices on the high-end QM version will go up, but more affordable trims will be available. Maybe a standard/luxury/off road set of options.
2. I'm no engineer, but we do know it's getting a different wiring harness with different underlying architecture. Rivian has been making statements about standardizing technology across R1 and R2. We could see some change-outs in underlying components because of new vendors or new technology that just works better with the new setup.
3. They'll probably find a way to cut some weight and simplify assembly in ways that aren't obvious from the outside.
4. Minor updates to things like the charging pad.

Considering I just locked up my order from a matching configuration in the R1 Shop last week, I’ll be kinda salty if they make particularly large changes/improvements. My suspicion is that it’s mostly going to be streamlining and cost-cutting in ways none of us will notice. I’ll take my vehicle of choice now rather than wait and hope for my configuration to appear again at some point between May and September (which would leave us without a car since our Model Y lease ends during this shutdown).

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Oooo, R1 refresh. I’m thinking the rear automatic window will make an appearance. Maybe the pop-out side windows on the R1S? Fold-forward seats? Lots of possibilities. The more Rivian vehicles that share parts the better.

I wish they had given everyone 15 days notice before implementation of the voucher. It would have really got the sales going. I’m not happy as rivian said your price is a lock. Now the config I had is 2000 more and I lose the charger roof rack and winter mats. F

RJ has already stated that the shutdown is primarily for vehicle network architecture update and cost cutting through efficiency. It’s EXTREMELY unlikely that NACS will be part of this. That was announced less than a year ago. It takes time to engineer and most importanty, revise OEM agreements and deliveries for the components for NACS.

If there is any other refresh as part of this, I think it will simply be a “Down fresh” where features are removed, with no new features. In terms of tooling ROI, Rivian has not come close to recovering the investment in the current tooling for the R1. Why would they spend millions on retooling for new refresh features/options when the vehicle has been shipping for only about 2 years?

This is a vehicle, not a cell phone.

Yup, imagine us in Montreal, we never even got the chance... Now a 2K increase (voucher should have been 30%, not 28), if we can get our hands on any scraps left in May when Quebec gets shop access. Leaves a bitter taste. Ill reach out to guide this week, I really hope they will fix this.

I do software things
except to say they wouldn’t change the rules without notice
Isn’t “until Sep 30” the notice?

also, not blaming you, but do you have a very specific config at pre-hike price? I wonder how many (out of total deliveries) have such hard to make configs…

Rivian can't charge *more* for a refreshed vehicle
huh, I was somehow thinking, “here comes another price hike”. Kinda makes sense to me that they’d rid of inventory, freeze production and then raise prices.
