That, sir, is offensive to dumpsters everywhere.

I would like to take this moment to acknowledge that while good intentioned sometimes my jokes can go too far. Specifically to all dumpsters out there that my recent comments comparing the Cybertruck to a dumpster was one of those moments. I sincerely apologize and promise to do better in the future!

Of course it's Elon Musk's politics. It's just that California's purchasing decisions don't outweigh the need for Tesla to be the preferred EV manufacturer throughout most of America. His politics don't bother half the country and those are the markets where the greatest growth potential exists.

My dumpster says he will forgive, but will never forget.

I wonder what it would take to get me to buy another Tesla? Musk not being part of the culture for at least a couple quarters would probably do it. Maybe even a couple of years so that the interiors can get some love. I'm amazed they don't have a class action ergonomic lawsuit nicknamed the 30/30. Thirty percent of the time, your head is turned 30 degrees to look at that center screen. My neck hurts just thinking about it.

That’s not true. It isn’t half the country, maybe a third.

Also, that third isn’t buying EVs. So…not exactly a smart decision by Musk.

California's already bought into EVs, (and they're still buying Teslas). And you're wrong about the percentages. It's maybe only a third that would give a damn enough to not buy because of politics. People in the middle, like me, couldn't care less about a company's politics. People that skew conservative may find only EV ownership acceptable if it's a Tesla because of Elon. Regardless, look at state populations. Just Texas and Florida combined present a significantly larger population and potential for growth. Tesla will be just fine.

I think the drop is due to a combination of things happening all at once.

  1. Moving pricing up and down rapidly has caused people to wonder if it is the right move to purchase a Tesla or wait to see if prices drop further.
  2. Changing in EV discounts in CA making people think differently (probably why Toyota and Honda sales are up)
  3. Musk's personal beliefs. I know some who make decisions based on this and others who don't like his beliefs but still purchased a new Tesla
  4. Tesla's having more and more functionality that requires payment. A friend just bought a second Tesla and was shocked that the garage door opener you have to pay for when he didn't in his older Tesla.

I think there is some truth to both. Rates are not helping, but the biggest factor is Musk.

People don’t want to be associated with him.
100% agree… I certainly had an opinion of Tesla because of Musk and didn’t want to be associated with him. Loved many things about the cars and what they are doing, but his actions and reputation have an impact, and I have talked with several who said they wish he want associated with their car… their a bit defensive about the reputational shadow now.

If Elon stepped down today, sales would increase immediately. I'm sure of it.

It’s not the politics for me… it’s the instability and chaos caused by his antics. Elon is not wired to manage large companies… he’s better at small nimble upstarts where changes have less impact and a reputation doesn’t previously exist. But dragging Tesla owners around his merry-go-round as the company grows and the customer base gets more established… his antics create havoc. People stop trusting the brand cause everything could change tomorrow.

I test drove an S when it first came out. The wife and I opted not to buy one because we felt it was a poor value because the interior felt so cheaply made and poorly engineered.
On the other hand, we love our starlink Internet.

We're not social media people (no Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and don't know Elon personally, so it is kinda fascinating to be online and see such strong opinions on someone that we've only evaluated from a "is this a good or bad product" perspective. Tesla seems to be doing fine and growing here in Georgia and we haven't heard anyone complain about his companies in person.
