Love your careful preparation, @Doni Landefeld. I predict a successful trip!

From my perspective, we're still in the "Murphy's Law" phase of public charging. Implications for a careful planner: (1) Never arrive anywhere so low on charge that you can't implement a backup plan. (2) Try not to construct a schedule that's so tight you'll be stressed by charging-related (or other) delays.

Very best wishes!

If the Tesla supercharger
I posted last week about an upcoming trip from Southwest Florida to NJ and received many helpful responses. Since then, I've been planning and plotting and noticed one of the charging stops on Navigation is a TESLA station in GA. In navigation setup, I included all of the networks (EVGo, Electrify America, etc) except Tesla since I don't yet have the necessary adapter. So I'm a little confused why a Tesla station was included. But I'm also new to EVs and charging on road trips, only having my RIS since Jan 30th.

When I tapped on details about the Tesla stop, directions indicate to "unlock the CCS plug or use your adapter." Again, I don't have an adapter and really don't want to buy one since Rivian will be shipping them out to owners in coming months. Will I be able to charge by "unlocking the CCS plug?" I found a couple Tesla stations several miles from my home and was going to check them out and experiment, though would certainly appreciate some wisdom here as well in this insightful forum. Thanks very much
It looks as if the Tesla supercharger station you selected does support charging other EVs like our Rivians. You will not need a Tesla-to-CCS adapter, which Tesla calls the Magic Dock; it already is built-in into the charger.
Perhaps you already did this: make sure you have the Tesla app installed and have set up an account with the necessary credit card information.
Took a trip this weekend with my R1S. Charging at a Tesla supercharger with magic dock. The process is not exactly plug-and-charge as it is with Teslas, but it is not that complicated. First, you will have to pull up to the charger face in and will have to use two charging spots. Because of the supercharger cable location and short length, you actually will need to use the supercharger in the next parking stall over to reach the Rivian. Once that's done, open Tesla app, select charge EV other than Tesla; The app automatically will locate your vehicle and ask you to select that location on the app. Next, select the charger that you will be using, e.g., 1A, 2C, etc. That's it.
Press the circular button on the charger cable connector a couple of seconds, push the cable up into the craddle and then pull it out. The Tesla charger cable will grab the CCS adapter, plug it into the Rivian, wait a few seconds, voila, charging will start.
Just sharing my experience. It was as close to flawless as can be.

You do not need the Tesla app if you have a CC attached to your Rivian account. Just plug in and wait a couple seconds and it starts charging. Really as easy as Tesla drivers. I did this twice this last weekend in Ames, IA at that Magic dock station. If you have a Tesla membership then i think you need to use the Tesla app to benefit from lower rates.

Have had my R1S since January. Did not know that. Thank you very much.
Must be plug and charge as it is with the Rivian network. Did not even think to use the Rivian app; have used the Tesla app for a few years, and it gave me that option. Paid $0.36/kWh. What kind of markup through the Rivian app?

I paid $0.46/kw I believe. I do not have a Tesla membership so far. If you have a Tesla membership it will be cheaper to use the Tesla app. If no Tesla membership it does not make any difference which app you use it will be the same price just with the Rivian app you just plug in and it goes.

Thanks.
That's crazy, such a scam. Even at $0.36/kWh, that works out to a whopping $12.00 per gallon of gasoline energy equivalent.
I guess I know now not to use the Rivian app at Tesla superchargers.

Just need to download Tesla app sign up for $13/month membership and then charge with Tesla app…definitely worth it if you charge at least 2 times a month…

Charging for the Tesla app?
Wow! Elon seems to be doing all the wrong things lately.
At the low end, one would have to charge north of 300 kW to make up for that absurd Tesla app "maintenance fee."
My last trip, drove R1S 330 miles, $30 in charging fees at Tesla superchargers, 2.3 miles/kWh. Such an electron guzzler!
My Tesla comes with free supercharger electricity for life (thanks, Musk!), but my R1S, feels so massive, so large, such a beast, and so comfortable a ride. Don't care that it has half the MPGe compared to Teslas. I even took the aero wheel covers off, don't care for them, ugly.

In the charger search settings you can select hide chargers that need an adapter. That way only magic doc chargers will show up. You do not need the Tesla app to us a magic doc. Your Rivian account is already linked. Just plug and charge. It’s all very simple. If there are instructions saying push and hold a button to remove the CSS charger plug it is a magic doc station.

Charged my S at that very station on Sunday - worked great. Note the guidance tells you which chargers are CCS and NACS. I too was a little confused about the Tesla stop but looked up spot on internet and found that they had ccs - and when I got there found the little “I” telling me how to unlock and which chargers to use - another proof point for the Riv charging guidance Great spot
@AnninSI - thanks this is reassuring and great info~

@AnninSI - Bigsky indicated some additional detail and I'm wondering if you had to do this at the particular Tesla station in Columbia, SC?......

Thanks for question - the Columbia, South Carolina site was very easy. Pulled straight into charger at far end, which was one of the units identified as CCS capable, pushed button to access charger and connected to my vehicle. It read my vehicle just like at RAN and sent charge fee through RAN. Very easy - no different than a RAN stop. No need for Tesla app - and plenty of access without compromising another charger
