And new charging port design every few years, rendering all your chargers and adapters obsolete. And the charge port will also be moved to the belly of the car. /sI can see it now… R2 will be powered by the new M4 chip! ?
So buying RIVN for $78/share when it's currently trading at $10? Really? As an investor, it would whole hog awesome to have apple buying RIVIAN for IPO price.
If you read tech news, especially scoop on Apple, it's not unusual for Apple's suppliers in Taiwan to leak or start rumors.Funny how a 'taiwaneese' media company gets wind of what 2 american companies are conspiring on...
No. Apple is done with cars. It's moved on to the new shiny object that everyone can't STFU about: AI. Apple was working on a completely driverless car/shuttle. It probably saw writing on the wall and found limitations with existing technology (because Tesla FSD is so successful? /s). Pulled the plug and moved on. AI can be applied to more things than cars. It's a far bigger idea with greater return on investment. My totally wild out there speculation that hasn't been suggested yet: Apple is going back in on a car but on an R1/R2 platform (this was the original Ford plan, and Toyota's plan with Tesla - buy skateboards from a dedicated EV manufacturer).
The way the manufacturing lines were designed, there's an excess of skateboard capacity relative to vehicle capacity. To support a branded platform such as this.
Apple gets to do what it's good at (software, UX, interior/exterior hard products) and buys a ready-to-drive vehicle platform on which to do it.
I agree. I'm trying to figure out what people are smoking when they read "Taiwan-based Digitimes cited supply chain sources." and suggest that Apple is buying Rivian!Good grief people. Talk about seeing what you wish to see instead of the most logical speculation that can be supported by actual evidence. This is more likely about audio and video streaming. Recall the change in recent replies on question regarding status of streaming: from "soon" to "exciting update for you all in the near future" and "we're in final steps of [video streaming] integration... it's coming later this year". It can also be about additional functionality Wassym spoke of, during San Jose event, relating to Apple Watch. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...a-with-head-of-software-wassym-bensaid.26718/
It's nonsense to speculate Apple's purchase of Rivian. Amazon owns a sizable stake in Rivian (reportedly over 20%). Amazon competes with Apple on many fronts. That level of involvement/ownership would be a conflict of sorts. Rivian's infotainment system is a media delivery platform; just like how your Amazon Fire TV can stream Hulu, HBO, Apple TV, Showtime, Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video, etc.. If Apple were to buy Rivian, you can bet your rear end that Amazon would be involved in those talks too. Yet, not at all mentioned in this rumor.
Apple's interest is no longer in cars. What did they pivot to? and what did the remaining Titan employees get shifted to? AI, the one thing everyone in tech is pivoting to. AI is a much bigger profit opportunity. It has potential of being in everything (shudder), beyond wheeled mobility.
Seeing the world through hard apple cider googles.I agree. I'm trying to figure out what people are smoking when they read "Taiwan-based Digitimes cited supply chain sources." and suggest that Apple is buying Rivian!

At current prices, you'd get….I'd trade my Rivian stock straight across for Apple stock.
Of course he declined to comment. No one in their right [business] mind would comment on unsettled negotiations. To do so you risk being accused of defrauding investors, a problem Musk has found himself in more than once.Someone just asked RJ about the "major phone manufacturer and an EV maker partnership" on the earnings call. Pretty much declined to comment.
Every few years? The 30 pin connector was around for 10 years. The Lighting connector was introduced in 2012, so more than 10 years. Not sure that counts as "every few years?"And new charging port design every few years, rendering all your chargers and adapters obsolete. I think you missed this: /sEvery few years? The 30 pin connector was around for 10 years. The Lighting connector was introduced in 2012, so more than 10 years. Not sure that counts as "every few years?"
