So I was browsing my Settings tab in my R1S this evening, and noticed, there has been a change to the "Data and Privacy" settings. I do not know at which point this changed, but I think/hope I would have noticed if it was more than one or two updates ago. Rivian Trackr states for both 2024.19.05 and 2024.19.02 "New Data and Privacy Controls for Exterior and Interior Cameras". I am on 2024.19.04

I have a Gen 1 R1S and the only slider option is for exterior cameras. I actually have an interior camera on my early build, but I put tape over it very early on because I'm paranoid software updates exactly like this could occur. The data sharing was on by default. My "data analytics sharing" slider was still off, FWIW.

I like Rivian, and I am sure most people are fine with leaving this setting on. However, I feel it is important for people interested to know and check for themselves. If anyone has more insight as to when this was changed, that'd be great.

Being a little paranoid, I sometimes wonder if these settings on cameras, GPS, etc., are there to eventually sell data to insurance companies. I have no indication Rivian is doing that but I have read about others (OnStar, etc.) doing this and it affecting people’s insurance rates Or damage reimbursements.

If you have a gen 1 R1S or R1T the cabin cameras were disabled a while back and then removed completely on later builds.

Only gen 2 has an active cabin camera for its ADAS.
I feel more comfortable with tape over mine just in case disabled also means end-of-life on security fixes.

I'm starting to think I got the right Generation R1S for myself personally...I am not there yet on giving up internal cabin privacy for more driving automation. I am fine with Driver+ not making more advancements if that is required. I imagine new generations will require the cabin camera activated even for simple stuff like cruise control.
