Question: with the RTT and cargo bars on the roof, is there room on the cargo bar to fit an awning on the side?
I think it depends on your RTT and the clearances when deployed. I’ve been thinking about getting one for my 23Zero tent. Pretty sure with the correct hardware, it’ll work. Tent might not be centered on the bars, but function over aesthetics.

Well, I've got 20ft (10'x2) of U track rails, along with a Harbor Freight 440lb electric hoist attached to my ceiling via 2x6's. I store the suspended tent over a safe area in my garage, then effortlessly slide the tent over my truck when it's time to go on an adventure. This is to support my 176lb OVS Bushveld 4 person RTT, along with 2 of my 3 crossbars, and sometimes my 68lb 270 awning and 15lb shower awning attached...but I usually remove them from my RackBrax quick release brackets before lifting the RTT. I've refined my process over the last year and can take the tent off/on in less than 10-15min. The RTT and crossbars are secured to the hoist via 2 x 10' tow straps bound at the connecting point with a 3ft strap.

OPs setup would work great for a lot of us owners, but my use case requires a more robust and effortless (aka lazy) system, at a lower price point ?.

Hey all - just finished up a project. I love my iKamper but I don’t want it on my truck 24/7. I installed this hoist Universal system from smarter home.

And with the Rivian cross bars I don’t have to take the camper off the rails and it will only take me 15-20 min to put it back on the truck. Figured I’d share.

I'm copying this! Really enjoyed your tow hitch solution too, though I'll just be getting a Rig'd Ultraswing probably. Cheers.

Since we're all sharing, I thought I'd drop in my setup:

Rivian R1T R1S Storing your roof top tent RTT with garage ceiling hoist 1717686469531-c

Rivian R1T R1S Storing your roof top tent RTT with garage ceiling hoist 1717686480566-bq

I played with a few options to keep the tent from hanging lower than it needed to from the rack, and eventually settled on this:
Rivian R1T R1S Storing your roof top tent RTT with garage ceiling hoist 1717686525147-km

FWIW: The tent itself is ~120 lbs-m, and the rest of my camping stuffs is probably another ~150 or so. The manufacturer quotes a 300 lbs-m limit, so I'm using almost all of it!

Takes about 5 minutes to winch it on and off the truck. Really easy to align (we added tape marks to the garage floor so that I can line it up with the truck using the reverse camera).

The biggest 'inconvenience' is that I obviously need to load the stuff I'm storing on top of the rack before backing the truck in, but that's a minor inconvenience once you have the workflow down, and a really nice trade-off for minimizing the space I'm taking up.

I'm obviously not 909phillyman, and
Sounds like you found out what you were looking for. For anyone else curious, I'll leave this for posterity:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/NEWHOUS...or-1-5-8-in-Strut-Channel-EL4W-158H/325537961

These are the trolleys I used.

With this unistrut channel: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Superst...nnel-in-Gold-Galvanized-ZA1200HS-10/100125003

Mine isn't holding my overhead rack, but I use the winch to hoist my off-road wheel setup which I have mounted to the wall.

No pictures but I just got the 'unistrut' (superstrut from HD) mounted with a 10ft 2x6, a la @909phillyman, and tomorrow will be getting the hoist up there with the trolley tracks on it, hook up straps and lift up my RTT. Excited.

I hung to the unistrut like a little kid with my 250lbs, and it was solid. Though quite simple, it felt good to get done.

Looks good, and I wish I could do this!

I was hoping to plan something similar, but it looks like my roof truss system won't support the weight.
I would be pretty surprised if it couldn't support 200 lbs properly distributed. What kind of truss do you have?

I have this type of ceiling. I've read a few random internet articles about them (none of which seem particularly reliable). They all seem to range from zero to 5lbs/sqft in the attached link.

I could very well be missing something, but the information I'm finding seems to indicate it's a bad idea.

The trusses need to be designed to at least hold a person's weight otherwise you wouldn't be able to finish the house. I had the same trusses in my last house. As long as you hit the middle of the stud and get at least 4 points of contact you will be fine.

Why do you have the slide? Does it make it is the easier to position over the truck?

It does.

I store my RTT in the position that you see it in...which is suspended over shelves and other things stored in the garage. When it's time to go on an adventure, I easily side my RTT over my R1S about 15', lower it, lock the crossbars, and go. It's a great setup and minimal effort is involved.
