I just did the same thing using Rivian Roamer and found a shop build that had 95% overlap with my custom build and swapped to it - thanks Rivian Roamer!
Nice! Congrats. ?

Thanks for sharing your story.

For those that are using Rivian Roamer to find configs, are you looking at 2025? I'm curious because lots of people have asked me to add notification support so you can be alerted.

However, this is a pretty significant effort to undertake and I had assumed people wanted it to get the 2023/2024 and it just didn't seem like a priority given they are almost out of Gen 1 inventory.

I"ve learned from some inside channels that Rivian's own sales team uses RR in place of some of their internal tools.

I have found the Atom feed you provide to fill that need already. I would imagine your complexity and cost would increase if you start pushing notifications...

Hah! It's SOO much better than their own (public) interface, I'm not surprised.

Only looking at 2025s. The interface and responsiveness is just much easier to use than the rivian shop. It's also nice to be able to see all inventory not just your zip code. Native notifications would be nice as I've had issues with setting up the atoms feed, but I understand it may not be a priority if it's a significant level of effort.

Another suggestion: It seems like you're able to pull time stamps of arrival and/or leaving the shop since you show when a certain build was "last seen" in the shop, but you don't publish those dates in the details. I'd love to see that detail included and the ability to filter/sort via newest listings. Mainly because people checking frequently (like me lol) would just like to sort by the latest additions since the last time they checked and it would be nice to see when shop listings were posted generally.

It can certainly be done if there's long-term demand. It may happen sooner than later because you're about to see some fun features launch here shortly. :)

I could add a sort for recently added. I'll do that tonight.

Did you lose your original deposit? I am being told by Rivian staff that they don't let you swap from a custom build to a shop vehicle without losing your deposit. This was claimed to be a recent change.

you gotta find the right guide who is willing to do it. I got told no by chat and phone. While my guide was able to do it. But it does sound like they are making it stricter

That’s crazy sauce. How recent? In July, I was willing to have Rivian transfer my $1k custom res deposit over to the lease down payment on my shop order, but they said no, just have the money back instead. They had my $1k and $500 deposits simultaneously for a day or two, but refunded me very quickly. I was told because I was still ordering a vehicle, my original deposit and order could be cancelled/refunded.

I was told no as well. Haven’t been able to connect with my guide about it yet.

The auto-generated order cancellation email did say I would lose my deposit. I intend to ask my guide about that.

I could understand losing a deposit if you’re canceling and not staying with Rivian, but they really shouldn’t penalize people for staying in the brand if they found a car sooner. That seems very harsh.

This was just yesterday. Heard it from the chat and also an email. I had ordered a custom R1S a few days before. I am playing phone tag with someone and perhaps they will let me do it now but not yet confirmed - he asked me which one I was looking at and I sent him the info and his response didn’t commit but made it seem like perhaps I will be able to do it after all. Will let everyone know what happens.

The people I’ve talked to have said this is a new rule. They said a lot of people are changing orders causing issues.

I hadn’t realized how much the shop turns over in just a day or two sometimes.

They should focus on filling people’s orders then with less shop inventory at any given time. People are finding their build or mighty similar builds in the shop and switching. That’s not the customer’s fault. It’s how I ended up getting mine and taking the chance on my reservation deposit. Least they could do is apply your $1k to your down payment on the lease/loan, even if they won’t refund it to you outright. I wanted to make no down payment on my lease, but was willing to make that compromise if need be. They acted like it was no big thing to hand me the money back.

Again, not the customer’s fault if Rivian is putting vehicles that people want in the shop and not making anyone’s custom orders.

I might need some help from the group on this one...

While I'm waiting for Customer Support to define what it means when my Custom Build status is "Processing Estimate" (and not expecting any sensible clarification), I received a message from an Inside Sales Guide at Rivian. (I've never received an email from anyone other than Support, so this is perhaps promising?)

The Inside Sales Guide sent me an email last night saying "I've located a VIN that matches your config... let me know if you want me to match this Rivian to your account since the VIN is subject to be reallocated to another account."

He also said, "... I'm available to discuss our available inventory and delivery timing with you." And provided me a link to schedule something on his calendar.

Admittedly, I am confused.

1. If there is truly a VIN that matches my Custom Build order, why wouldn't I want to match this VIN with my account? Is there something I am missing?

2. Why would he want to discuss "available inventory" with me if they have found a VIN that matches my Custom Build spec?

TIA for any thoughts.
I've been in contact with Inside Sales for a while, they reached out after my initial order. They also sent me a mail over the weekend that they have a vehicle on the production line that matches 9/10 of my wishlist (no dynamic roof). Makes me furious that they build random configs instead of what people actually order. Feels like ordering a latte at the coffee shop and being served tea.

Anyway, I had a call with them just now and Dynamic Roof config is still ~2 months out they said, so I dropped the dynamic roof feature and now have a vehicle ready to purchase in 1-2 weeks (he said it's in QA right now).
