We live in the woods Mice have always
been my problem in our vehicles. But the damage they are doing to the Rivian wiring
is off the charts. I may have to build a moat of stainless steel that I drive into tostopthem from getting in. We are using poison traps and scent bags in the vehicle but we have to stop this .
Any one else with this problem? Im looking for good advice

Moth balls are a pretty great deterrent for mice and men

Yeah, it’s a problem. They call them, “Deer mice,” by me. “Dear mice,” please GTF out of my garage. Seriously, though - they are called Deer Mice…. ?

I was going to suggest the same thing that @COdogman did. Again, no personal experience, but have seen the same mentioned on the Tesla forums.

For a low cost trap, Shawn Woods of Mouse Trap Mondays fame on a YouTube suggests https://www.rinnetraps.com/?ref=shawnwoods1 as a good trap. These are mounted on a standard 5 gallon hardware store bucket that is optionally filled with water.

The bucket traps are good.

I've had reasonable luck with predator urine (you can buy this on Amazon) as a deterrent perimeter.

Honda has an actual part # for rodent deterrent electrical wrap tape, but I'm told it doesn't work

I have one and it works very well. i Just leave in our garage and dump them down the road when I get 1. Most i have caught overnight is 4.

Poison bait and maybe bucket traps outdoors, spring loaded traps indoors. Smells will work temporarily till other traps can start making difference.

I avoid poisons as they tend to work their way up the food chain and impact wildlife beyond the intended targets.

Yep. That’s what we are concerned about. We want the foxes, snakes, and birds to eat the mice to eradicate the mice, not the predators.

We live on a farm and have had some issues with mice.

So far, I have put four of the sonic repellants and some 100W LED work lights on a timer to come on at sunset off at sunrise. This seems to have helped, but I doubt it is perfect.

A couple weeks ago we picked up a couple kittens and made them a nice home in the garage, hoping this puts a good dent in the mouse population.

I am tempted to go with the grid guard, but haven't pulled the trigger. @Count Orlok has used them to good results last I heard.

I have "mice" (rats, really) too. I'm now in the habit of taking out the front trunk tub once a week or so and lacing everything with concentrated peppermint oil. It burns my eyes it's so strong. The rodents move on.

Unfortunately, it lasts only a few weeks, so I need to reapply regularly.

The "rat zapper" had been working, but the rats are learning (or evolving) and no long go near the traps --even when fully baited and unarmed.
